>
> Because if we want to take Krita further, and help Krita to get more users, then we have to make sure that Krita is much more visible outside this forum, and that not only every 4 weeks 4 new pictures “flash” in the social media and illuminate Krita for a short time, no, Krita must be permanently in the spotlight with new content.
> Yes, I know this is a lot of work. And I certainly created a lot of work in this way last year with all my nominations.
>
> Unfortunately, advertising nowadays only works through this high frequency of “sonication” of the advertised. The times when a clip was repeated on TV for years with little variation and achieved its goal were over about 50 years ago.

I think these are two different goals although there is some overlap.

I never thought as the nominations as selecting artworks for the purpose of finding something to advertise with. In my mind it was more like the academy awards; fellow Krita artists giving each other a pat on the back, telling you you did something good and that everyone in the community should see this.

Advertising works really different. For advertising pretty much every artwork will do because artworks are pretty much not important for getting Krita as a product out there (I know it hurts but that’s how it is). You need endorsements, reach, volume and engagement. Nice if the product is also good but honestly can be garbage too if done right, perhaps a catchy slogan (_think differently_).

We should really think about what purpose the nomination and voting on the artworks should have. In my opinion it’s not advertising or being a selection committee to find “worthy” images, and I never thought about it that way. For me it was always just: “Cool, someone else from the Krita community thinks my stuff is neat.”

Getting back to making nominations more accessible. I want to mention Kikibot again (Discobot in vanila discourse). People could mention Kikibot, tell her to nominate an artwork and Kikibot can create a new topic based on a template and set up the poll. I tried to find out how customizable the bot is but found only a few tutorials about other tings on the Discourse meta forum. I imagine it being easier than creating a plug-in though.

I know that these overlap, but do not see it as an issue. But the works that fulfill your “requirement” ↓ are usually all in a quality good for advertising Krita.

When I realized that these images were also posted on Mastodon and X, I realized the opportunity that lies within, and if I’m not mistaken, these works are also posted on Reddit in between.

We honor the winners of the nominations, plus we can attract and create attention by reposting these images on Krita’s SM accounts.

How often can you read here in the forum, between the lines and quite openly, a lament about Krita’s not so good income and about the financial difficulties Krita is now unfortunately having, this could be a way to increase that income at least a little and alleviate the hardship. And additionally, the nominated artists gain more popularity.

A pat on the head is patronising/insulting. A pat on the back is complimentary.

Nominations alone don’t even guaranty that the image will be voted to be featured. And posting images on Krita’s social media also does very little because the only people who are going to see this are people who already follow Krita or are in the bubble.

I admit I’m not a marketing expert, I worked for a marketing company for about four years, creating systems for delivery and tracking of ads (and people I guess). It’s really not that easy as posting an artwork now and then. You need to advertise Krita’s features, need other people to talk about it in social media, make it that they use #Krita when posting their stuff and recommending it to their peers. Basically you want everyone to post stuff about Krita but the Krita account.

I think it’s getting off topic though.

Guess that’s just my furryness where a pat on the head is actually very good :3

This is a nice idea. But I am not sure if the bot is flexible. At-least I do not know how to customize it to that level. May be we need to create a new bot. I will still try to do some research about this.

That is mainly true.

Then talk about implementing the “web-form” / mask I presented as idea, to modernize the old way for tapping others back if one goes through.
Its problems were that only a chosen few could use it and that many were deterred from the way to set up a nomination. The “rest” worked quite good. Would it help to simplify it and let every user access it?

This topic is about a way to get pictures for our gallery. And if the artists allow it, these pictures will be posted on the SM accounts anyway. 😉 So, we can let this out, because it is a side effect already implemented, I only named the chances that lie in it.

Thanks @Takiro for reminding me of the bookmark feature, which I haven’t used. That is a good way of being able to go back to favourites.

So I have a few ideas about the wide-ranging and meandering topics here.
Sorry, this is a bit long so I’ve broken this down into sections.

I’m new here, so a bit about me:
About a year ago I retired and decided, "I’ve gotten good at photo manipulation in GiMP, vectors in InkScape… and now that I have the time I’d like to learn how to draw/paint freehand. I could barely draw a straight line at the time, and I’m only slightly better at it now. 🙂

When I started to think about doing digital painting I looked at several program options. I looked at the features of each program. But more importantly, I looked for finished works that had me feeling, “I’d love to be able to do that someday!” Honestly, I found it hard to find finished works that said they came from Krita. I was able to find enough to see what was possible. At the end of the day, I took a leap based on feature reviews and I’m glad I did.

Advertising, i.e. bringing in more users:
Over this past year or so while I was learning to draw/paint, I’ve been watching “James Julier Art Tutorials” on YouTube. He does weekly under-an-hourish-long videos where his tagline is “I’m going to break this complex looking [painting of the week] down into steps that are way easier than you imagine so you can have a go at painting this.”

He uses Procreate, and honestly, if I had an iDevice I’d really think of picking it up based on his videos alone. His videos are not just time-lapses, he shows exactly what he’s doing from colors to brush selection to brush stroke to brush size & opacity to layers to filters & blurs to deforming tools… you get the idea. It’s a tutorial on how to use Procreate one cool painting at a time. Every week. My Monolith and Egg submissions to this month’s Challenge are rooted in methods he shows how to do in two of his videos. Of course, I have to translate everything into Krita terms… and…

_ **If the Krita community had people doing this type of teaching video for Krita, I bet more people would pick Krita up and play with it.** _ I only wish I were good enough in Krita to pick up the gauntlet and make videos like this. Maybe in a few years…

Voting icon:
_Icon:_ Does the forum software have the ability to add icons? If so, how about something like this:
 ![image](https://krita-artists.org/uploads/default/original/3X/b/b/bbb59396fafe4f7fc8e4fbba3dd92d2e38f14e6c.png)
A quick search over at my favorite icon place ([throphy Icon - Free PNG & SVG 4145762 - Noun Project](https://thenounproject.com/icon/throphy-4145762/?)) came up with a laurel wreath, you know, the thing often associated with winning a competition. I’m sure a community of arts could come up with something cooler than this example. Even if someone just thinks the icon is cute, choosing that icon over a star or a heart would still likely indicate a work that should be considered for a feature spot. The tool text could be “Nominate me” or something along those lines.

Nominating process:
A threshold of counting wreaths/likes seems like a good idea to nominate, and I’d like to question the time-bound aspect. If an image gets N (number of) “likes”, it should get nominated, even if it takes months to reach that threshold. I’m sure most “likes” happen rather quickly. However, let’s say someone is browsing history or a scrapbook. They like an image and that action pushes it over the N limit. This should get nominated to be featured. Of course, once the N limit is reached it can not be nominated more than once.

Also, it would be best if IMAGES rather than entire comments could be nominated. Sometimes there are multiple images in a single comment, or people may be liking the comment with no thought of the image. I’m wondering if liking just the image is an out-of-the-box capability of the discussion board software…

Website Design:
I gather the discussion board here is limited in how it can be customized. A few other sites have been called out and I use [https://www.deviantart.com/falconet9](https://www.deviantart.com/falconet9) as my online scrapbook. I like the way the gallery is laid out there and the way suggested/featured images are handled as a sidebar.

Oh, and I’m almost exclusively a PC user. The only time I go there on my phone is to pull things up to show images to friends when out and about. I have no idea how favorites are handled there and the volume there is huge so I rarely get more than a handful of likes.

In closing:
Ok. If you’re not asleep, thanks for reading this all the way through. You’re cool. 🙂

Thanks to everyone for making [krita-artists.org](http://krita-artists.org) a cool place to come and play! I’m so happy to have found this website and to get to play in Krita with y’all!

Hi @sooz, it would be good to include instructions how to correctly link the artwork’s image. I found it a bit difficult, so maybe I’m doing it wrong. Pasting the link will only have the lower resolution version. If I could edit the post, I would copy the original markup, but in the absence of that, is there an easy way to get an enlarge-able image in the nominations thread?

Select the picture like you select text, choose quote from the pop-up asking what you want to do with the selection, then you’ll see the original link, and this link should work in every topic you copy it to in the same way as you were posting a picture yourself or as the OP has posted it.
You can even select the size for display, so 100%, 75%, 50%, 25%, at least this is the case for me as a user with regular status, and you are a regular too.
Sometimes it is a little difficult to select a picture when there is no text in the post of that picture, but with a little “mouse juggling” I could select every picture so far.

The fact that this is a possible (positive) option for the flagging function, which is generally perceived as negative, must first be made clear to the community and to anyone who joins the forum.
It is also a very hidden option to introduce this feature.
The problem remains how to find something easily accessible, easy to understand and easy to use that makes it possible to nominate pictures.
I am still of the opinion that a fixed input mask in combination with the old nomination system is probably the best option, if such an input mask can be realized.
