I don’t get how luminyan is an extremist for not wanting to use GenAI stuff with the listed ethical
I couldn’t care less if that person doesn’t want to use GenAI. By all means, you decide your workflow. He’s an extremist because he doesn’t want any of US to use it according to his extremist definition of “ethical” (which in case you didn’t notice, includes the AI that you called “practical” like summarizing or translating).
There’s also that massive RAM and GPU card shortage that occurred because AI companies were buying so much of it for data centers.
You not using AI doesn’t make RAM cheaper. It hasn’t done it, because it doesn’t work like that. Believe me, I’m no fan of those companies monopolizing the hardware, but you’re taking it on the technology instead of on them. Google recently discovered a new algorithm (using AI btw) that makes AI remember MORE context using LESS RAM, and RAM prices went down immediately due to that. It’s technology what will make tech cheaper, not roleplaying like cavemen.
BTW: See what I’m saying? The post was about plugins, I even corrected people there that the discussions were about plugins. It was other people talking about broader AI. And I got censored for it, with no possibility to change that absurd rule.
This community is ran by tyrants. A simple “you guys are deviating from the topic, so please keep on-topic” would have been reasonable and in good faith. The tyrant needed to prove me right by locking the topic, preventing any criticism of this extremist rule ever again.
