i doubt there is any way to do this, and i’m probably the only one who would ever want it, but is there a way to commit a bunch of brush strokes and then undo/redo them all at once?

The reason being, i like to do a bunch of brush strokes sometimes and then zoom out and see if i like the change or not, but pressing undo a bunch of times to compare is a pain. i should probably just use the workflow of making changes on a new layer and then merging them down, but this kinda interferes with my workflow of using the animation timeline for quickly doing a bunch of different drawings without needing to create a new file each time.

You can make another animated layer above the ‘main’ layer and try additional brush strokes in the upper layer, then press Del to remove them if you don’t like them.
No need to merge them, they all get composited together when you’re ready to render the ‘animation’ out as a .png sequence.

Along the timeline, you can make new keyframes to try new images or duplicate the previous keyframe to try a previous keyfame image with a different ‘addition’ in the layer above.
You can make a third animated layer above the first two to try ‘little extras on top’ if you like.

Yeah! This is pretty close to how i work already using multiple layers and animation frames for totally different drawings. (Unrelatedly, i do sometimes use the animation features for animating ;^p). But the issue is with the workflow of quickly adding new layers to try things out and then merging them down. If you do that with an animation, that new layer will not have a keyframe by default and so will need some work to set it up before it can be painted on and merged down into a single frame. That doesn’t work so well when i usually don’t even know when a detail i’m adding is going to be something i’m going to not be sure about or not.

Another idea i just thought of would be to copy the painted detail, hit undo a bunch of times, and then paste the detail into the existing layer, then a single undo/redo would paint in the entire detail. That actually kinda captures the workflow that i want pretty well now that i think about it.
