Brush help

Hi I downloaded brushes from Gumroad in ABR format I can see the folder imported to Krita but there is nothing in the folder. So I thought maybe it has something to do with brush tip even though I have no idea how to fix it. I downloaded Photoshop. I can see all the brushes there so now I’m trying to figure out how to make sure the brushes are all good so I can create a new zip for Krita. Does anyone have any experience with this?

An ABR file is a file originally developed by Adobe for Photoshop. Krita can import these files but not use them as presets, Krita can only use the brush tips they contain.
If you want to use these brush tips as brushes in Krita, you have to recreate the appropriate settings yourself to create a preset which you can then find again in Krita among the other presets.
The file extension of Krita’s brush presets is KPP, you can find them individually or in Krita bundles with the file extension BUNDLE.

Thank you yes I am very prepared to make the individual brushes. The problem I’m having is that not even the brush tips are showing up when I import the ABR file.

So I’m thinking the only way I can fix this so far from my google search is that I need to convert the abr to png images and make the brushes that way. There is an app for windows called ABRMATE. I tried ABRVIEWER first but I think that one is too old. ABRMATE is looking like it will work but hopefully someone has an easier way.

He-he, you’re quicker than I, I’ll post it anyway. Yes, that is the way.

Is the ABR file from Gumroad free or paid? If it is free, you could post the link to it and I will take a look. It may be a newer ABR file that Krita can’t read as it is. However, there is a tool that I have been able to use to convert any of the newer ABR files, to an ABR version supported by Krita.
Only the copy protected ABR files can not be converted with this tool. The tool is called abrMate 1.1 and is no longer distributed by the manufacturer, but you can still sometimes find it on download sites – or on Archive[dot]org.

OOOO Okay I was thinking I would have to convert them to PNG but your saying I could try converting to an older ABR file. It was a paid pack $5.00. I like the artist so if I’m out five bucks I’m out five bucks. There are 225 brush tips to import so If I could use ABRMATE your way that would be super helpful.

You can do both things with abrMate, convert them to PNG’s or down convert the ABR-Format to an ABR-Format Krita can import, if the ABR-File isn’t copy-protected.

Oh perfect it isn’t copy protected. Converting it to the older version worked! Thank you so much for all of your help today!
