How do I make the newer transform tool function like the 5.0.6 transform tool when I hold shift?

In 5.0.6 when I held shift and shrunk/expanded a selection it would equally shrink/expand on all sides so for example if I wanted to keep something centered where it was then it would stay like that

I finally got a new version because I got a new laptop and now the selection tool only shrinks/expands on the side that I have held shift on.

How do I change it to be like it was previously?

Is your question about the transform tool or one of the selection tools? Perhaps you could screenshot the icon.

Holding the Shift key will maintain aspect ratio.
Holding the Alt key will maintain the centre.
Holding Shift+Alt will maintain both aspect ratio and centre.

That is how 5.0.6 behaves as well.

I hovered over it to make sure the name was transform

Hi so I just tried shift, alt, and shift + alt on 5.0.6 (I got my laptop for college and I am home atm at my desktop) and shift maintained the center, alt only stretched it towards the corner which I held on (I think maintaining the aspect ratio but I’m not 100% what that means), and shift + alt did not do anything

Maybe I accidentally changed something? I assume from what you said the new version I downloaded on my laptop is how it is intended to function and what I have on 5.0.6 is not how it is supposed to be. Where would I check to see what I could have changed?

In Settings → Configure Krita → General → Tools tab, there is an option called “Switch Control/Alt Selection Modifiers” but that should not affect use of the Shift key.

I’ve tried the 5.0.6 appimage on Linux Mint and it behaves as I described.
I’m sure there is no difference between Windows and Linux for this but I can check later.

Those are swapped over compared to my experience of using Shift and Alt.

(“Aspect ratio” is the shape of the bounding box in terms of is it square, a tall thin rectangle or a wide/squat rectangle. i.e. what is the ratio between its height and its width.)

For pressing Shift+Alt, try click-hold on the corner first and then press-hold Shift+Alt to see if that does it. Sometimes its important whether you press a modifier key before you do the click or after you do the click.

All those modifier actions are supposed to be baked in to the code and not determined by any options in the settings (except for the Ctrl/Alt swap over as I first mentioned but I think that only affects the Selection modifier behaviour).

If you press Ctrl then wherever the cursor was, you should get a rotation cursor and then you can do simultaneaous X/Y axis rotation by click-dragging the cursor vertically/horizontally.

I’ve no idea why your 5.0.6 behaves differently.
