Is there any plans to add Wayland support to Krita?

@RokeJulianLockhart This is a fork from 2021 with this commit: Turn off all X11 bullshit · KDE/krita@526e29c · GitHub , at that time Krita would display a notification (a pop up message) when started on a Wayland display server: “Krita does not support the Wayland platform. Use XWayland to run Krita on Wayland. Krita will close now.”. For a long time, this check was preventing poeple to run Krita in Wayland. This fork is just removing this popup, afaik.

In short: this fork is outdated, obsolete, bring nothing new and for sure no new development. Its only benefit is to clutter the infrastructure of Microsoft for Github, that is still a little something.

Then it is in progress, as the developers are migrating to the next qt version.

@BeARToys, they are waiting to migrate so that they can retain all of Krita’s functionality, whereas otherwise they would have had to remove lots of tablet (touch-screen) functionality. They could have migrated back in early Qt5 days, but XWayland is fine for now.

For serious digital painting I have seen and heard that it has glitches May be xwayland improved during this time and is capable of handling krita. I need to try it again on it. In any case under Xwayland color management is not good and may be capped to sRGB.

So if you just want krita to edit and annotate screenshots and light image editing and other stuff then it is good.

Now we have an initial Wayland support: Allow running in native Wayland mode (!2363) · Merge requests · Graphics / Krita · GitLab

Not sure if we need some extra work to make it support Wayland color management protocol…
