Monthly Art Challenge – Alien World Building – February 2026

There is a category already. It’s called “Monthly art contest.” You haven’t selected it in your preferences, that’s why you’re not seeing it.

Also, the contest is pinned globally so that everyone sees it (unless the user chooses in their preferences to only see the pinned post once).

No, by default you don’t see it, you need to add it manually, what i meant is that it is hard to see the monthly challege if you are new or you don’t visit the website often

That’s why we make a globally-pinned post.

Congratulations @Rhea_Asma

Congratulations @Rhea_Asma, you are the winner of the February 2026 Monthly Art Challenge.

To everyone who submitted artwork and/or took the time to vote: Thank you and well done.

But wait, your work isn’t finished yet.

  1. Please choose the theme (as well as an optional challenge, if you wish) for the upcoming month.

  2. Please create a post in the Finished Artwork category to display your winning submission so we can feature your work in the gallery.

  3. You have been granted a new winner’s badge for this competition. You can make this visible by editing your profile.

OMG! Second place??? :face_with_spiral_eyes: I’ve never been that high before! Thanks guys! And congrats @Rhea_Asma!

Thank you for telling me. The artist had uploaded 2 images in their topic and for some reason this was freaking out the Discourse banner plugin. I deleted the hidden image and it works now.

I’m waiting for @Rhea_Asma to respond on next month’s challenge. I just sent a second message. If there is no response, we’ll ask @Corentin to step in and provide next month’s challenge.

Please wait a little longer :folded_hands:

Sorry for the delay.

Thanks everyone. The entries were fantastic.

I choose a topic

An Unforgettable Scene – 5 Seconds Before

The concept centers on freezing a decisive moment — the fragile pause just before something happens that will change everything.

It may be a moment you personally experienced.
An event that altered your path.
Or a fleeting second that passed quickly, yet never left your mind.

This is not about drawing the event itself.
And not about what comes after.
It is about the suspended instant right before impact.

Perhaps it is:

Five seconds before a confession.

Before a penalty kick is taken.

Before a marriage proposal.
before shooting

Before jumping into the sea.

Before smashing a mirror.

Or any moment when the air feels heavier than usual.

There are endless possibilities. You may imagine a fictional scenario, or recreate a real event that truly happened to you. If you have lived it, expressing its emotion visually becomes more instinctive and authentic.

Because it is a fleeting second, the image should reflect the tension of that pause.
The goal is to convey the emotional weight of that exact frame in time.
It would be best to use a clear contrast between light and shadow to create psychological depth.

A single focal point can be chosen (face, hand, window, shadow, etc.).
Depending on the content of your artwork, the thing you want to draw attention to directly is what should be highlighted.
