You got me there! But I’d love to do it all, be it characters or backgrounds. I even tried animating! Maybe it’s my curious nature? Probably why my mind wanders everywhere and I end up doing nothing…
Though I did make a huge leap since I’m on this forum!
And hey, if you were so up for a natural landscape, why don’t you draw a fantasy city? Like a fairy city in a forest or something?
Haha! I understand the feeling. I’ve also thought about learning animation, I even have a plan for what I’d do if I were serious about it, but it’s so much work… Maybe someday.
Well, a fantasy city is still a city, some shapes might be different but the core architectural constraints are still the same. There’s more beauty in Minas Tirith or Ravnica than in New York or even Venice, but it’s still as boring for me to draw all the straight lines, the little architectural frills and everything. And all the references that exist for those fantasy cities are already paintings or other artworks that I wouldn’t be able to improve or even emulate without a ton of work. Is it worth it?
And if you go for something as radically different as a fairy city in the forest, is it still architecture? I feel like it’s more like artificially shaped nature… I don’t know. Most of fantasy ideal places for me don’t fall into the “urban” category, they are villages at best.
Also, maybe all of those are just excuses because I can’t convince myself to stop playing Crusader Kings 3 with the Princes of Darkness mod that I recently dived in! Hahaha!
I wouldn’t have described that as fisheye - the angle isn’t wide enough.
It is tilted though - if you’re aiming to replicate the picture as it is then your horizon needs to be at an angle. Your current horizon line is also too high - it should be roughly across where the red parasols are I think.
Much kudos for choosing something so complex though - you’re braver than I am!
Hah! - There’s always something more immediately rewarding and/or less threatening. It’s a battle we have to face each time we want to do something more meaningful.
Now… do I carry on with my painting or play a round of Vampire Survivors?!..
I had to do some convincing myself to post my ‘final’ version in the finals thread instead of here. Even though I’m as far as I’m going to get with it, being at the point where I don’t know how to continue it without being too much effort for too little reward, it doesn’t seem finished enough. Maybe I’m overthinking it, but whenever I look at my own work it’s always a tossup between ‘this is cool, I did this?’ and ‘this is so unpolished and lacking style’.
It’s funny you should like my piece, because while it’s a pretty generic roadbridge that could be anywhere, it happens to be in Texas, which I admit is my home state as well.
@Iruhas I’ve just noticed your post in the finals thread, and I don’t understand what’s happened here. The first picture you posted with the house falls within the brief as I understand it.
Personally I feel you should ignore the vote and post it as an entry. It might not be an ideal response to the brief, but I don’t think it’s off-topic.
Thank you all for your suggestions, but that was an image from 2 weeks ago which I posted as a finished artwork.
So I’m planning to enter my other work for this month’s challenge which uses photos from some of these screenshots as reference: (source:google map)
I really struggled with this challenge and after many failed attempts decided this months challenge just wasn’t for me. This afternoon I gave it a final go with an ‘older’ urban scene. It isn’t finished yet and I’m not even sure if my scene fits the challenge so I decided to share my attempt here.
I loved seeing all of the other creations, it will be hard to pick a favourite.
