You could watch how Bob Ross does it (most of the episodes are on YouTube now). Even though he’s using oil paints, the same concept can be done with digital art.

First of all you need references. the best ones are the ones we know, go and see lakes and rivers, walk in nature, look at the reflection of light on trees, in water, at night. go and see paintings of people who talk about nature Monet, Van Gogh, Peter Doig…
