oh thanks for posting this one (turtle wips)! the immediate light and shadow separation make sense to quickly build up the shape. Keep up the great work ![]()
Edit: I finally got the time-lapse function working after updating Krita! However, the GIF is a little too large to upload here, so if anyone knows of a way for me to post it, please let me know!
You could try exporting the video as .mp4 which may give a file small enough to upload here.
An alternative would be a link to a YouTube or Vimeo hosted video.
Nice, so much good stuff here ![]()
I’m always a bit torn about doing studies. I mean, the effort to paint it is almost as big as painting something original (if you want similar quality, at least), but you end up with a copy.
I mean, studies are a great way to learn, but then I feel like I can’t show it off too much without feeling a bit bad about it
Maybe I’m overthinking it…
Yeah, I can relate to that feeling. I sometimes feel a little guilty doing studies instead of working on original pieces. But honestly, having done them for a while, studies like this have become its own form of enjoyment, that’s separate from illustrating originals. Knowing that I’m getting mileage and learning new things from each study is enough to keep me driven and stay motivated. And of course, sharing my progress with others is a nice feeling too.
Though, it is important to also create works of your own from time to time to test your skills. For me, I do focused studies when I feel I lack something in a certain department, like brushwork or values, with the intent of applying that to something I want to create next.
Also, if anyone has constructive criticism to tell me, I’d appreciate any feedback you may have.
