New tool for Comic Panels ("Knife Tool") - asking for feedback

Does it only happen if you try to cut it from within the shape? As in, does it happen if you try to cross it from outside? (it’s a bit different code).

Hi Tiar, thanks for the reply.

I just tested the following four methods:

  1. Starting outside the shape and ended outside the shape.
  2. Starting outside the shape and ending inside the shape.
  3. Starting inside the shape and ending outside the shape.
  4. Starting inside the shape and ending inside the shape.

In every case, when doing perfect horizontal or vertical lines, I received sporadic failures. I’ve yet to run into a case where it happens when doing a line that has any sort of tilt to it.

The actual method of making the panels isn’t super important, since I’m mostly concerned about speeding up and organizing my workflow during the drawing process, which will save me significantly more time than the initial panel drawing. As long as I can make a polygon a ‘panel’ that can hold layers inside and do the below, I’d be happy.

My dream comic panel editing workflow would look like this:

  1. I would select the panel I want to draw on. Either on-canvas with some sort of shortcut+click or by using the layer docker. I would hope I don’t have to specifically select the comic tool for this.
  2. All other panels and layers will fade in opacity and be non-editable. The current panel will be on top.
  3. All other layers in the layer docker will disappear except the ones grouped in this panel. (maybe with a ‘back’ button at the top of the stack for those confused how they got here)
  4. The panel’s borders will be slightly visible (or a red line, since I’ll probably have borders turned off to draw my own) or ‘dim’ everything outside of the crop zone to let me know where they are, but otherwise there’s no cropping of the layers in edit mode.
  5. By default, all layers in the panel will be cropped to that panel’s borders, but there should be some option to allow layers above a certain point in the layer stack to be cropped to a different border entirely. This allows foreground elements to overflow the comic border on specific side(s). This is extremely crucial otherwise the entire panel tool is unusable no matter how much I want to use it.

Looks amazing! Is there a way to install it on mac? Or do you have an expected release date? The commit seems to be merged to Master already?

EDIT: Never mind, I saw that it will be incuded in version 5.3, congrats! I will test it on the pre-alpha download (available here: Krita Monthly Update - Edition 33 | Krita)
