Just to add that we already have 3 different modifier short-cut in the layer stack, like Alt clicking the layer for isolating it, Shift clicking to select multiple layers, Ctrl clicking the layer thumbnail to select opaque.

I never use modifier on layer stack, except the shift and ctrl one that are a standard in UI for multiselection purpose
For other I was not aware of them, I always use button/context menu on layers.

If modifier are used to be able to change a property on a layer, it should at least be available trhough a button or context menu too: visible things let you discover/find how to do something
Modifier can’t really be discovered
