Random Cartoon Inking Practice & Feedback in KRITA

Lately I have been trying to practice inking more in KRITA.
I found it’s brush behaviour more similar to PS rather than Clip studio, medibang or Paint tool sai.
Krita can be quite good for realistic inking approach, but it behaves a little laggy/less responsive when different types of cartoon styles are applied ( compared to above mentioned software ).
I have tried playing with the stabilizers, but I guess it works differently for each software.
Like one can stabilize lines in PS (with Lazy nezumi pro add on/plug in ) or the stabilizer function in autodesk sketchbook, but they do not “behave” so “organic” like CSP,MBP or PTS.
Personally I believe the way Krita is currently progressing, this will surely get better in near future  .

@RamonM would love to hear your experience with inking.

Just want to add, inking brushes are responding a little better in KRITA PRE ALPHA 5 version, rather than the stable versions.
Again this is my personal view, based on my working experiences with other free and paid software, which are more comics creation oriented software.

I think CSP has some additional processing of its own by default even outside of stabilizing.
I found playing around with Flow and Strength (in textures) settings brought Krita inking brushes closer to the ones I liked in CSP.

I feel you are right .
Recently I found some Krita inking brushes created by Vinicius Braga.
Very simple set ,but works well inside Krita pre alpha 5 version.
I am trying to experiment with them (along with few modified default inking brushes in Krita).
So far the experience is quite positive.

Hi, i think Krita can work more on stabilizers. I talked with some coders, and is also a question about time. So yes, maybe in future could be better stabilizers. I sent videos, images comparing CSP and Krita. And is a theme that i am interested, but requires time.

I know Procreate, CSP, SAI, PS, And plugins quoted in the thread, but i think Lazy is more than an stabilizer, much more imo.
For inking i think Clip is the most known since the Brand is oriented to comic,( i can provide more info with images if this interests the audience.) Very good to work watching the entire page, and having a trustable stabilizer. SAI was really easy with an slider.

But for me as i analize more the inking history it depends seriously in your goals. There are different type of inkers or styles. I stopped my experimentation recently. (i talked about that in the meeting, no more brushes for Krita 4, at least for now) a fast test here:

Also we have to take in consideration another aspects, but it would be a longer talk. If more people is interested… who knows.

@RamonM ,Thanks for your feedback and input.
Is it possible in near future,Let’s say when KRITA 5 final version comes out,we can expect to get a special comics oriented bundle from you ?
Because I am comparing digital inking in Krita 4 and krita 5 pre alpha currently and in krita 5 pre alpha inking brushes are behaving betterly .
Thanks  .

Hmm maybe . I need to test more the default brushes, because I am discovering good things with them. I need to test the ink brushes in Krita 5 and that takes time.
Also there are other artists like @wolthera interested in ink that I would like to talk with first. She has an ink bundle already.

Do you feel that the stabilizer does not behave as it should?
Have you tried using the Dynamic Brush Tool?

Thanks a lot !!!
No,I never used the dynamic brush tool before !
Used it today for the first time and it’s a great tool !
I have tried it out in Krita 5 pre alpha version .
The results are quite satisfying, much better than brush smoothing option (basic/weighted/stabilizer).
Now is it somehow possible to save different dynamic brush tool option values separately inside different brushes ?
Because sometime certain brushes start to give desired results under different values.
Again,thanks a lot for pointing this out  !!

I’m glad it worked , I also don’t like the normal stabilizer very much and as for your question unfortunately you can’t save the values to each brush.

No problem, if you create a new or modified bundle even after a year,it will be worth waiting for ! So I will be waiting  !
Thank you for reminding me about the inking brushes created by@wolthera .
I used to use that bundle long back,in older versions.
They were good, but as Krita was different then, never able to test their full potential.
Later on,those brushes were not included in the default set .
So forgot about that !
Today @SchrodingerCat pointed about the dynamic brush tool, which I have never tried before.
So I have downloded the wolthera inking brushes .
Tested them in Krita 5 pre alpha with dynamic brush tool and they are giving much better "organic"results than before.
I will keep experimenting with them along with a inking bundle created by Vinicius Braga.
Let’s see if I can improve more  !

Okay, that means I need to remember certain values for now  .
Let’s hope in near future,Krita will have that option too !
