Hi, first my pc specs:
ASUS B450 Mainboard, Prozessor Ryzen 5 5500,
RAM16 GB S 3000 DDR4 , GPU RX 6600
San Disk SSD 200GB
Evo 870 SSD 500 GB
My monitor is a dell P 2210

Now i do have a cheap pseudo gamin mouse, but which input device is better. It should be as cheap as possible. are the wacom bamoboo fun good too?
Just want to try if its better than drawing with mice.

With krita i onbly get this level of detail with mouse:

 ![krita-erstesBild](https://krita-artists.org/uploads/default/original/3X/7/f/7faf83e7c1289d4b92210a6346ebcd024b071119.jpeg)

Its not that bad but also not very good.

Hi!

Any tablet is better than a mouse, and much more fun to work with. Everyone has their prefered size, but there’s nothing wrong with starting with a small tablet. It might be worth it to look for a second-hand Wacom tablet.

Thx. Had one that was already brokem years ago (not wacom) and then I see some used Wacom Bamboo Fun Medium Graphics Tablet for cheap in the internet are they good? Is there any advice or question i should ask the seller before pourchasing? For other hardware i look carefully at the images and the style of selling description. Normally i get working ahrdware after that in good to near mint condition.

Hey!

I would wholeheartedly recommend using a tablet that would immensely boost quality. Both precision and pressure sensitivity is a game changer.

Even the cheapest tablet from huion and xppen is awesome. plus there is a used market to explore if budget is tight

Huion has worked flawlessly on Linux for me. Plus there is proprietary driver for huion if you want to go that path

The advantage of Wacom is that the drivers are already in Linux.
Which Linux distribution and desktop environment are you using?

For Linux to work with a graphics tablet without it being absolutely annoying to set up your pretty much have to use a KDE desktop because most others lack the capabilities to set them up, unless you don’t mind working in the terminal and digging config files like its 1986. And you are tied to use X (not the twitter thing) over Wayland.

I use Wacom for years and work with Krita only on Linux.

I can’t offer advice about the specs and what works best with Linux etc. But I vote a big YES to getting a graphics tablet. Much more control and the pressure sensitivity looks much better. 👍

Welcome to the forum, @Frieder_Saugschmerle. I think you will love having a tablet. And your wrists will thank you for it (painting with a mouse is not good for our wrists and arms).

Hello and welcome to the forum,

almost every tablet is better than no tablet and only a mouse. I have an XP-Pen Artist 16 (2nd Gen.) tablet, which has a display to draw upon, I love this very much. 💜

Before that I had an old Wacom Intuos 3, but I did not like it so much, because it does not have a display. Maybe I am too much accustomed to pen and paper and working on the XP-Pen tablet feels more natural.

From my own experience I would say that the step from using a mouse to the XP-Pen tablet opened up a whole galaxy of new possibilities.

On the XP-Pen website are various drivers for linux as well, at least for the tablet that I have, though I have never used my tablet with linux and cannot say anything about them …

Yeah, even if its not krita i did experience this problem with azpainter:

 ![hummingbird-5](https://krita-artists.org/uploads/default/original/3X/8/7/87b1ad7554a021dc7ae2e2ed047276ed20587152.jpeg)
Its not visible but yes i did feel it a bit in the hands while drawing it.

Hope its the same for me too. Altough regarding the prices used wacom seems to be even cheaper than XP Pen or huion. New XP Pen is cheaper it seems. Under ~30 € i can get a working wacom bamboo fun it seems. That is not much money to try it out.

Go ahead, try it then. You seem to have some intuition about the Wacom Bamboo, I would follow it. Any tablet is better than no tablet at all. 😊
And you can always upgrade your setup later …

</div>

I started with a Wacom bambo pen and touch and it really reliable and durable, it is just really tiny only reason I upgraded. I think bamboo is probably good for Linux since it is so simple.

If you intend to upgrade in the future and such probably a Windows or Mac route will be better if you want to go full Wacom. I certainly do not recommend Linux for higher end wacoms.

I honestly want to test other brands but Wacom really is a good choice.

Thx for the warning for the newer wacoms. However i want just to use the old version of wacom bamboo to check if its something i want to use. Dont mind starting windows for develloping images or to draw but for most tasks windows is very bad.

You may not be able to get Wacom drivers for old tablets on Windows 10/11.
My old Wacom Graphire tablet is not recognised by the Wacom management utility on Windows 10 but works fine on Linux.

Isn’t Wacom Bamboo an old and discontinued tablet? I think I used to have it a long, long time ago. It seemed fine to me, but compared to the modern tablets of today it sucked, like really, bad!

I haven’t used a recent Wacom tablet, but I think they have a reputation for being much more expensive for what you are getting compared to an off-brand tablet. Personally, I’m using Huion Giano as I couldn’t find a good and big tablet from another brand.

Depending on your budget, I would consider trying the new [Huion Inspiroy 2 (medium)](https://www.huion.com/products/pen_tablet/Inspiroy/H951P.html). I used the older H950P model, and it was very good for the price. As it was said, Huion provides proprietary Linux drivers, but I only tested them with Ubuntu 22.04. If you can buy with a free refund policy for X days, I think it’s worth trying and seeing if it works for you.

The only thing I would stay away from are display tablets. Expensive, fragile, bad for the posture. If only you can get accustomed to a regular pen tablet, it will serve you very well.

Adding to YRH, Instead of getting a display tablet, I would suggest going to Android Tablet route with Samsung, you get a nice display, can make it a wireless display tablet (on Windows only), uses Wacom tech, and is an independent system (take anywhere, draw anywhere). The only downside is Krita is not very well supported on Android with no tablet interface and a lack of plugin support.
