So, can these gradient files be imported as they are to Krita or do they need to be converted to a format suitable for Krita?

You can use them in Krita as they are.

Maybe you like the following sources too, both are available on DeviantArt, they are free of charge, but you have to convert them first before you can use them in Krita.
