[volunteers needed] Krita Bughunt Month Started

Hi, all!

This week we are starting the month of hunting bugs in Krita! This is going to be a joint effort of developers and the painters community to reduce the number of bugs on Krita’s bugzilla and make Krita more stable and reliable!

At the moment we have 900(!) bug reports on the bugzilla. At least half of them is untriaged, that is, not confirmed by anyone else other than the reporter. It makes the life of developers really hard, they just don’t know what bug they should jump to, basically, drowning in the amount of the reports.

That is why we are now asking for help from the community. We do really need some help with testing and triaging bugs on the bugzilla!

For the next “BugHunt Month” I would like to suggest you a game: we will split into two teams, “testers” and “developers”, and will try to reduce the number of bugs we have in Krita. Testers will check/confirm the bugs, and developers will fix the just-confirmed bugs as quick as possible

I hope this activity will help reducing the number of bugs we have and eventually make Krita much more stable.

Here are the instructions on how to test/triage bugs in Krita:

I will personally be a part of the developers team and have already started looking into the confirmed bugs list! I will also monitor this thread and will try to answer your questions!

If you would like to join the game, please write in this thread!

Is that in preparation for the refactoring and update to qt6?

No, porting to Qt6 is going in parallel: Prebuilt Krita dependencies for Qt6 port of Krita

BugHunt month is just to make our bugzilla a little bit more manageable for developers, since we are basically drowning in reports (with a lot of reports of not the best quality).

Is there anyone who can reproduce line jitter when using stylus on Android tablets? (this bug: 460190 – When using Krita on the Samsung Tab S8 Ultra, Jitter is present in brush strokes depending on how far or close your zoom is to the canvas.)

I have an idea how to fix that, but I need someone to actually test my fix…

Hi, I’m able to reproduce it on a Tab S6 Lite with a slow-ish drawing speed.

I can reproduce it, I would say
samsung galaxy s8 ultra.
Document: A3 600 ppi
I used the round brush.
That sceenshot is on 250% zoom.

Hello, I looked at a few bugs and updated their status:

Hello, I also went through a number of bugs on the list last but ran into ambiguities:

376101 - No ‘icon only’ option in toolbar customization screen.
Re-confirmed but struck me as a possible “wontfix”.

429871 - Bad initial numbers when entering Pallete color RGB values
Couldn’t reproduce in latest versions of Krita directly, but once reproduced in 4.4.1 it carried over to 5.2.6 and 5.3 pre-alpha. Since it did carry over I didn’t want to mark it as resolved without input from the developers on fixing the root cause (@tiar, @wolthera).

432184 - Properties buttons in Layers docker aren’t greyed/hidden for layers that don’t have properties dialogs
Re-confirmed

428140 - Advanced Color Selector looks ugly in horizontal layout
Re-confirmed, though I’ve found mentions that the Advanced Color Selector is being phased out. Perhaps it’s something to be labeled “wontfix”.

493436 - Layer style + transformed clones + large canvas = extremely long file loading times.
Re-confirmed, though I think a developer need to weigh in on how to categorise this correctly. Technically things are working as intended, but these non-destructive layer features perform really bad together. It could be a simple miss somewhere in the code leading to unnecessary recursion, but it could also indicate the need for a larger overhaul project. In case of the latter, bug reports like this could perhaps be collected under an “optimize non-destructive workflow features” wishlist item.

Hello @Vitamorus and welcome to the forum

As a new user, the forum software raised alarms because of the repeated posting of links to the same website :frowning:
There is also a limit on the number of links posted for new users.
This is to prevent spamming problems.

As you use the forum more, the automatic limits will be lifted for you.

As a temporary measure, you could post just the title and the bug id number then people will easily be able to fill in the rest for themselves.

Thank you for investigating bug reports and please keep on doing that if you have the time available.

Edit:Add: I’ve just noticed, your user Trust level has been increased by another moderator. So that should help when you try again. See if it does

  • reproduced. Can confirm that on all tools, when “source point move” is unchecked, the source is stuck in the upper left corner. CTRL + click doesn’t do anything.

Tried checking other clone bugs, but seems like they’ve all been confirmed already. Whoops.

Thanks, it would be good if you registered in the bug tracker and updated the ticket from REPORTED to CONFIRMED. Then it’ll be clear it doesn’t need re-testing by another person.

Hi, @YRH, @wakocima, @AhabGreybeard and @Vitamorus!

Thank you very much for triaging these bugs! I will try to fix them tomorrow (and resolve your uncertainties)!

In the meantime, I have fixed a bunch of brush preset related bugs

There are three bugs with loading presets (brush tips and patterns) embedded into brush presets. Sometimes they were skipped and sometimes they required restart of Krita.

This patch should fix a bunch of bugs related to the embedded resources  So if you had any issues with embedding resources, please recheck

The patch will be available either in this pipeline for master or in tomorrow’s nightlies

If the clone-related bug is reported before Krita 5.1 you can try to recheck it  There has been many changes to clones since then.

Erm… I cannot reproduce it locally with the brush tool.Or you mean it doesn’t work with other tools, like “rectangle” and “ellipse”?

Hi @wils , welcome!

The window just goes outside the device’s screen and the buttons are out of reach, right? Yes, that’s a bug. Thanks.

@YRH Ok, is it possible to fix the bug ? If possible, when i can get the refine version?
