Thank you for the feedback. As I was saying, I use your brushes most of the time. I’m at the stage where I want to start making my own, so yesterday I watched one of @Deevad s videos then used som of your brushes as a starting point, since I know they are so useful!
I want to get more ‘brushy’ in my work, because aiming for realism is one thing, but I feel afterwards that it lacks in creativity and firing the imagination!
Lovely work.
Maybe try a slighty higher contrast between subject and background to make him ‘pop’.
For an example, take a look at The Laughing Cavalier by Frans Hals or Girl with a Pearl Earring by Johannes Vermeer
Edit to add.
Ooops. Did not notice the reference image when I first looked Xavier., but anyway, another example is Long Head Guy on here. Notice the high contrast between his coat, skin and the background. Those make him ‘pop’ like the paintings mentioned above. The Mona Lisa is also another example of using high contrast to make a subject ‘pop’ out from the backgound.
What I’m getting at is. Learn from the Masters of Painting not a photographer.
Thank you for the feedback.
I’ve had a bit of a rough play below. I think it pops more, but might be losing some mood perhaps?
If you want to replicate the mood in the photograph then ignore my post and use your orginal painting as you have done that very well.
If you look at the examples mentioned earlier carefully you can see lost and found edges which helps create depth and mood
Best advice still remains. Study the Masters of Painting

Thanks @sooz, that is no problem.
I got practice with textures and hair on this one.
It was a challenge to get the head and body lined up nicely.
