Thanks @sooz, I tried these steps:
In the step 2. the option to copy the image’s URL will differ per browser (on Chrome it’s “Copy image address”), but I think that’s clear enough.
However, when I just pasted the link into the post, it only showed as the clickable link, not an image. Maybe it’s how it behaves on Chrome? I don’t know.
After some experimentation, I found this method to be pretty failsafe:
- Copy the link to the full image.
- Press “Hyperlink” or Ctrl+K to insert a link. Paste the URL and optionally fill in a shorter title.
- Once the link markdown is inserted into the post, add a single ! (exclamation mark) before the [ (the opening square bracket) of the link.
It will look something like this: - Save/publish the post.
In the editing preview the image may be large, but after showing the post normally, it will get scaled down. Although the URL is different, this is practically the same as @Michelist 's quote method, as far as I can tell.
