I drew this for my sibling on the occasion of their 41st birthday! 
The little character here is a detective from a kid’s book that we enjoyed growing up. The pose and birthday cake were actually already in the story - so it was a perfect match.

As I will sometimes do, I did some analog sketches first - and in fact drew the entire thing out on paper, which I later traced over in Krita.

One small fun thing I experimented with - was to add some white texturing/scratches on the gold and pink colors, and some black texturing to the red. Though subtle, the idea was to hopefully help tone down the ‘solid digital color’ look and gear more towards that old printed children’s book feel.
