hi! not sure if i’m doing this right; this is my first time here.
i was working away on a piece today and i wanted to go back far because i didn’t like what i had drawn in that area at all, so i clicked the ctrl+z shortcut on my tablet a few times. instead of deleting just a few lines, it deleted my lineart and sketch layers. i had this happen once before and i managed to recover most of my work after spamming a bunch of keys in a frenzy, but nothing is helping here. is there anything i can do to get those layers back or do i just have to start all over again? is this a normal occurence? thanks!
It could be normal… First of all, if you panicked and started clicking at random, and made a new brush stroke – sorry, you’re toast
If something like that happens, don’t do anything else but press the REDO shortcut, or go to menu Edit > Redo. This should restore what you just undo’ed, including the strokes and layers. But you will lose this immediately if you undo and start painting.
Next, go to your Krita settings, General > Miscellaneous and pay attention to the item “Undo stack size” and the option “Use cumulative undo”.
These options are responsible for how far back you can undo, and whether you can undo one by one, or worst case everything at once (seems like what happened to you).
I hope this helps and you can avoid a disaster in the future!
thank you for your reply, i really appreciate it!! i did immediately pause and press redo maybe a million times but i must have made some tiny change because nothing was coming back, and i’ve got no autosave to work back from. i haven’t touched any of the base krita setting because i’m not so savvy and very scared of messing things up HAHA so the undo stack size and cumulative undo settings are as you have shown, default. i can’t get anything back so i’m just going to do it over from scratch, but this has been an informative experience anyway. thank you!
