A Tribute to Misty Comic

Once upon a time, there was a little girl called Staticgirl who grew up on 1970s British comics. At this time, they sold in their millions. One comic was called Misty. It was a horror comic aimed at pre-teens and it was very, very good. Its editor was allegedly a beautiful mystical being who lived in a cavern and was called The Lady of the Mists. This was not unusual in the 1970s. 2000AD is still going and its editor is a green alien who eats plastic cups. Sadly Misty was only with us for a few years before she vanished back into the fog…

Anyway, after a 10 year break from art due to severe artists block, I have created a tribute to the wonderful artwork created by Shirley Bellwood for Halloween. If you are wondering why the colours are so weird I refer you back to the 1970s…

I am very rusty and had a struggle with it. This is what i have learned so far:

  1. I need to use references more when I am painting than when I am drawing because it’s a lot to think about without my making it hard on myself
  2. I need to not panic when I pick up a brush
  3. So many instruction videos! I have learned more in the last 3 months than the proceeding 20 years!
  4. I need a lie-down now

This is a beautiful picture and the topic would also fit very well as a contribution for the monthly Art Challenge, because in October 2023 Halloween / Autumn is the theme on the plan.

If you want this, so participate in the challenge, then you could ask the admins and moderators to close this topic, so you can post your picture as a competition entry.
Until 2023-10-28T01:00:00Z this is possible.
Should you decide to do so, it is best to speak to @AhabGreybeard; @sooz or @raghukamath about it.

If you want to see what you’re getting into, here are the latest posts:

Thank you that’s very kind! Unfortunately I used a reference for the bat and I can’t find out who originally created it, so I don’t think it really follows the rules.

It was just a nice idea. And if you don’t participate, you just can’t win this month’s challenge, something you never had in mind before reading my post, I suppose, so probably no harm done.
So now I wish you lots and lots of likes for your picture, may it earn points and win admirers this way.

I think you mean followers/admirers

You are right, that was an unlucky translation, but in German, a painting can certainly win lovers, e.g. “im Deutschen kann ein Bild durchaus Liebhaber gewinnen.”

Thank you! I didn’t like it much by the time I had finished fighting with it so I am glad it was worth it in the end.

It was a lovely idea. I shall keep watching the challenges to see if there are any others I can take part in. I am quite new to the forum and still exploring it,
