Accidentally deleted my autosave and don't have a backup :(

I was working on a project yesterday and i guess i wasn’t completely present when working as i didnt remember to save at all. I finally found time today so i opened Krita and was greeted with the standard autosave recovery menu with my project being there, i think i accidentally clicked on “OK” instead of “cancel” and my drawing wasn’t selected (i may have unselected it because of a mistap). When it didn’t immediately open i knew something was wrong. and everything spiraled downward from there and i’ve ended up here. Pls help if possible, i really don’t want to lose six hours of work.
Edit: I feel i should mention that this is Krita android.

Hello welcome to the forum,

have you save this file at any point during 6hrs?

if so you can try go to the actual folder of where you save your work and check if there are file that has .kra~ extension.
If you see that, copy that one somewhere else and change the extension to .kra , try open it in krita.
It may not save all of it, but hopefully it saved some of it.
[make sure to copy and create a backup of it just in case]

if its not present, i dont know - maybe seem other more veteran user will be of help.

Unfortunately i didn’t remember to save. thanks for the reply tho.

So you were working six hours without saving?

Generally when you work without saving an autosave is made somewhere if I remember correctly, in Android I would not know what folder it would be.

Unfortunately, the file will be gone. The problem is, that there are no file recovery tools known to me that work on Android’s file system, with such a tool it is sometimes possible to find the data-structure of deleted files and to recreate the file. If you save your files on SD or TF-Cards, then there is a very little chance to recover it with tools specialized to recover data from such cards, but that’s seldom the case.

Whether you do a manual Save or not, if you Quit krita normally then the autosave file is deleted by krita.
The autosave file isn’t made for you, it’s made for krita to recover from a crash. If you Quit normally, krita assumes that you’ve saved your work so it deletes the autosave file and finishes.

If you were offered an autosave file when you started krita then krita must have crashed in the previous session.
Another possibility is that krita was ‘killed’ by the operating system for some reason and didn’t have chance to delete its autosave file.

Also, if you make changes to an image and try to Close it or Quit without saving, you’ll be given a warning notice and asked if you want to save it.
Do you remember that happening?

I had a look into the Krita manual. You could watch in the temp folder of your device, as autosave files seem to be stored there. If I got it right, depending on what you clicked it could still be there. But most likely it is deleted.

It says there is even an option to show autosave files in your recent list. If you enable that, maybe it shows up, if it is still somewhere.

If its lost, then feel hugged, hope it helps overcoming losing your work.
