Adding to selection (using SHIFT) [SOLVED]

Somehow I can’t add to a selection when pressing SHIFT. If I do so (while being in one of the selection tools) the tool switches to the Line tool which, I assume, should not be the case. I tried it both in Krita 4 and 5. Is there anything that I have configured wrong? I reset the key settings to Default but the issue persists.

Any help would be appreciated.

Did you edit your keyboard layout? There are 2 layouts and 1 of them is good to not edit. Search shift to see if you can see something abnormal.

Or are you in like a Photoshop keyboard layout? You make lines with shift in PS.

I used to be in the Photoshop layout (and I would really want to be, having to use both programs). But even if I restore the defaults, the problem persists.

And in Photoshop the shift key function changes depending on the tool used. In selection mode, it always adds to the selection which is basically the standard function of the shift key in many applications. Like “ALT” usually means to subtract something from a selection. This actually works in Krita right now.

I ussualy just memorize the layout for each software I use it is just easier in so many ways. For Krita I change the layout because I find it quite bad and way too overloaded so I used to it annoying me.

What I would recommend first is to go to the resources folder and check if you have and keyboard files to delete (I think none) and if none I think I would recommend reinstalling Krita as editing keyboard layouts is one of the few file types that are not graced by triple replicas so your edits changed the original files probably. And if that does not reset behaviour I donno.

On my end selection tools have been behaving with shift and alt until now. I would need to double check if it is a version thing.

After using “Reset All Settings” it works again. Using “Restore Defaults” from the Shortcuts selections wasn’t enough.

When you switch between too similar programs like Krita and Photoshop a lot, any consistency makes work much easier. It’s all about visual and muscle memory when you spend several hours each day in those programs. And I have many other programs as well which I have to memorize extra shortcuts as well. So simplification is the key.

Cheers for the suggestions.
