Advice needed for credits and licensing for a bundle I've made

Hello, my tag is Draneria and it is awesome to be here. I’ve been loyal to Krita since I could hold a stylus but never interacted with the community until now.

In fact, I have some brushes for the first time I want to post in the resources section for everyone (100% free ofc), but I am nervous and have questions!

  1. I’ve made .bundle of to replicate some metallic mediums.
  2. However they are adapted from other peoples brushes/textures.
  3. I’ve named the set as “Draneria” so I know what’s what
  4. But I do not want to take credit for someone elses work!

So my questions:

  • Is it enough to post all the credits/resources I’ve used from other people and put a disclaimer that it isn’t 100% my work, or do I need to get their permission to include it?

  • Is it okay to post it called “Draneria’s Traditional Specialty Set: Metallics (RGBA)” (or something) even though I adapted it from someone elses brush? (for example, I’ve used memileo’s incredible 360-light tips to create a metallic foil brush, and other bundles from the resources section) - or perhaps name each brush after the bundle I got it from? I don’t know xD

  • Sadly I’m not going to have much time to do bug fixes/troubleshooting for people. Will this still be okay to share?

  • Is there any helpful information I can/should include with the bundle, or anything else I should know?

I’m probably just overthinking this because I rarely engage online and I’ve never done this before! If anyone could give me some reassurance life is going to be okay I’d greatly appreciate it xD

P.S Whomever has worked on bringing the RGBA function to life deserves their own private island, it’s genius! Krita is the best.

Welcome, @Draneria!

 Hello @Draneria, and welcome to the forum!

I only offer modified brushes if their license allows me to do so, or if the person creating them explicitly allows me to do so when asked. The Creative Commons licenses, for example, can be viewed here. You can find other licenses with your favorite search engine. Maybe this helps you find your way.

For any work you do that you freely share with other people, you’re under no obligation to fix any problems or faults it may have.

Those are CC-BY-SA which means that you need to give credit to memilio (who is also @emilm on this forum) and your bundle needs to be licensed as CC-BY-SA as well.
That information can be put in the Description field when you create the bundle or you can edit it in if you take the .bundle file apart (it’s a .zip file) and edit the meta.xml file.

For any other brushes based on work by other people, different considerations may apply. If there are mixed licenses that are not compatible with each other, you may need to split your bundle into two or more smaller bundles.

It’s all going to be ok but you may need to do a little bit more work on this and many people here will offer help and advice

Thank you all so much!
