All layers have been merged

Sorry, English is not my native language.

I was making a drawing, with some layers. Not many. I have been using KRITA for a few months now, never had this problem.

I saved it, went to lunch and turned off the PC. When I come back and open the KRT file… ALL the layers were together in one file.

LOVED JESUS. Please help me.
Is there any way to access a history? I know that when the power goes down, or similar, KRITA provides a restore option. But I don’t know if I can access this option.

Hi

Dis you save in .kra file file format?
Or other format like .png or .jpeg ?

that is the question I saved in KRA.

So I don’t understand what happened.

If layers have been merged, it’s not possible to unmerge…
And normally this shouldn’t occurs when saving a document as kra file

Maybe you’ve applied a merge by mistake with shortcut (default is CTRLSHIFTE)?
This action doesn’t ask for a confirmation…

Do you have a backup active?

If yes you can try to reopen last backup file to check if layers are unmerged

I must have done something wrong. Sorry to take up your time. Thanks for trying to help.

I have this backup file. It is a few actions behind the original. Even the background is half drawn. … But it is ALSO all in one layer. And I am SURE there were 7 layers when I was making the background

Sorry, I have no more idea :man_shrugging:

I can just confirm you that krita don’t merge layers automatically on saving when using kra file format.

To my knowledge, only saving on non kra does this or asking explicitly to merge layers…

I don’t know this is important information. But I always save in KRA and PSD format.

and both formats are on a single layer.

But thanks for your time and help. At least you tried. Thanks XD

I hadn’t done THAT much either. I can start again.

That is the autosave file and it’s only for recovering from a crash or other non-normal ending of a krita session.
If you close krita normally then the autosave file is deleted by krita before it finally closes.

In your -\AppData\Local folder, you should find the krita.log file and at the end of that, in entries with date and time, there is the history of the most recent actions. That may give useful information.
