As we all know, the recording feature requires you to externally install ffmpeg, which isn’t possible for android users. I rely heavily on the programs I use to automatically record my work so it doesn’t end up a seizure-inducing view-flipping nightmare when I go to upload it to social media, and I would like to be able to have speedpaints be a patreon-exclusive thing to further incentivise patron support.
So my request is basically: find a method of rendering that is built-in that will allow android/chromeos users to be able to utilize this at this point standardized feature.
Oh hallelujah, any chance there might also be some kind of change to how intervals are saved? Having thousands of screenshots isn’t really ideal for my tablet’s storage (and them taking up the entirety of my gallery so I can’t find actual pics in there)
The “Capture Interval” option in the Recorder docker allows you to set the amount of time between each screenshot, this controls the number of snapshots taken. The bigger the interval, the fewer pictures will be saved.
Also, to reduce the amount of data that accumulates with every screenshot, you can choose ‘‘JPEG’’ as ‘‘Format’’ and reduce the ‘‘Quality’’ with the slider below it to reduce the amount of data, there I wouldn’t go below 75% (but you have to determine that yourself, maybe the deteriorating quality below 75% is enough for you), but if quality is important to you than you better choose ‘‘PNG’’, if you choose PNG you can set maximum ‘‘Compression’’ to save space, because PNG compresses without quality loss this is no problem like the JPEG-Compression, but needs a little more storage space than JPEG - this accumulates too.
As a last measure, you can also reduce the amount of data by choosing a smaller “Resolution”, then you choose “Half” or “Quarter” instead of “Original”. I don’t record myself, but I guess it will have the biggest impact on the amount of recorded data.
