Hey there,
I was searching a long time for a good graphics-tablet to draw with.
Now I saw, that krita is available on android tablets, but I found nothing about the required specs…
I need it only for simple 7 color textures up to 1024px for games which I´m creating, while I´m not at home (or in bed).
So, what are the minimum specs to make it run smoothly?
I know that @sooz runs Krita on a no-name or minor-brand tablet with 2 gigs of RAM, but has no pressure, and she is happy with it, and it should run well.
If you go for a Samsung Galaxy S6/7/8 + an S-Pen, I think even the “smaller ones” would do. But I’ve heard that there should be one tablet from Samsung which offers no pressure, so you should ask your seller in case you go for Samsung.
Maybe you take a look in this topic? Although it is actually about a laptop, tablets are treated on the sidelines.
I am not personally familiar with Android when it comes to tablets. But in this case, I would possibly first look for a better equipped no-name model in this price range, and order it for testing. That way, with a little luck, you might get more for the same money, or the same for less.
The good thing for us customers nowadays is the possibility to return an item if we don’t like it.
Whereas I know people who overdo it with it. They order a product, for example a drill, from every available supplier so that they can test all the different models on the market and ultimately keep one.
I have even seen someone order a tool to fix their car and then return it.
But that would be too bold for me personally.
I suggest trying to look for an Android device supported by Custom Roms Devices | LineageOS Wiki (My personal favourite, Lineage OS) and search for devices that might be in your budget.
While it doesn’t tell you which device exactly to buy, it shrinks significantly your choice spectrum and gives you the good sensation that your device can be (with enough thinking) an open-source device and thus without obsolescence ^^
I chose Samsung Galaxy tab s6 lite, an old model on 300€, but a true beast indeed .
Oh, and by the way, there are some graphic tablets like some XP-Pen models that can be connected to the phone or tab, just make sure if the they are compatible, driver and cable might be a big issue here.
Or, But only if the first option might not work, buy a Sonarpen! Just connect it to the headphone jack, but make sure there is one! It should give you enough pen pressure although sometimes it is isn’t as stable as a graphic tablet.
And most importantly, remember that it isn’t the tool that makes the master but it is the opposite, being low in budget but being rich in knowledge shows a great sign of virtue of an artist, I might not be as rich in resources as some professional painters but I like to find solutions and workarounds for my lackings (like using AI to upscale images)
Was my first time using krita, after a friend gave me some tipps ^^
Had some problems with the settings, because in paint.net I was using left and right mousebuttons to paint…
Oh and it was the first timelapse I have ever made, hehe
That also applies to me.
I have started game development 5-6 years ago, started with a low-poly game (Steam-Link), then I thought my skills are enough for a survival (another Steam-Link) but because of my computer is becoming more and more scrap, I needed to change the style 2 times because of performance problems, first back to low-poly and now to 2D…
I have more than enough skills to program a whole game, but no money to replace my old computer, because I would need over 1000€ for getting someting better (I got an inheritance 7.5 years ago and put it all into a high end PC) and that means saving money for 2 years while something keeps popping always up that ruins my plans ^^
I´m okay with my current style (shown in the video above), but I don´t think anymore, that it will become any success, so I´m mostly working just for fun.
I’ve never been the great painter, I’ve never done more than stick figures…
But manadalas and painting-by-numbers are still a lot of fun for me (at an age of 36 years), that’s how the current style came about (with a complex self-developed material in the UE5) ^^
Maybe I should also think about going back to ue4, for better performance…
If you can get it - its one of the better tablet for art.
you can also check samsung A-line and their equivalent in other tablet manufacturer.
plus point with samsung A line , is like S line they often get as much update as S line and support year as well.
Samsung A8 was my first choice, but then I found out, that it has no pen-support…
I think I will wait till the s6 lite is in sale anywhere or maybe I find something used ^^
