Animation and transparency mask

Hi Kriters !

I’d like to point out that it’s possible to animate tranparency masks ( just hit empty frame button on the sublayer, as on a standard drawing one) instead of the associated parent layer. However, while the onion skinning can be activated on the main layer with no effect on the sequence of modifications, there is no onion skinning available on the mask allowing to track the changes on it appropriately. I long for such a feature, which could greatly ease and speed the creative process in case one would prefer a non destructive approach in animating.

What do you think guys ?

I understand the desire for onion skinning on transparency masks, but I think it might be challenging to implement. Onion skinning typically uses different opacities for different frames, which could make it difficult to accurately see the transparency changes. However, if users could set all onion skins to 100% opacity, it might be possible to achieve the desired effect. Just a thought!

The image associated with a transparency mask (and a filter mask) is a single channel greyscale image and so is always covered in ‘paint’.
As such, the usual onion skin representation would be useless.

Hey ! True, this greyscale image is covered in paint, but the fact is it could be useful to see the different occurences of the frames on this child layer, just as on a normal one because, while painting on this layer, you are obliged to back and forth between frames in ordrer to affect precisely your mask (I repeat, in the case you want animate its content). I think that, by offering the possibility to treat a transparency mask as one whould a paint layer, half of the work is done. I really don’t see any intricacy in the allowance of onionskin on it, not even because of the management of transparency associated with a frame of a transparency mask, as it is as simple as a clipping mask for which onion skinning works very well. Hence , it’s just about extending the features of transparency masks with something that is around the corner. What do you think ?
