I’m currently trying to use animation curves for tweening. However every time I go onto a different transform tool (such as mesh or warp), my drawing completely vanishes and I don’t know why. And sometimes trying to undo it either won’t work or just crash the whole software. I am using the newest version
This is indeed the case, complex deformations are not supported. Only different combinations of preset curves (and layer transparency separately) To Animate through the “Transformation Mask”, use only the first “Free” tab in the “Tool options”. The other tabs work only in static form. It may be worth making a request to visually “lock these tabs” if animation curves are already active for the selected layer. This could signal an existing limitation and would save users from program crashes.
Unfortunately, I am not familiar with other programs, it may be worth looking for something that works with 2D skeletons (there are none in Krita either) I assume programs working with 2D skeletons (Dragon Bones or Blender) have additional features with animated deformation.
Perhaps there is someone more knowledgeable
Blender has a feature called Lattices. It can be combined with bones to command deformation. This tutorial is an introduction to the subject:
Another technique is to select the part of the character that will be deformed (example: hair), enter Edit Mode, right-click and choose the Subdvide option, to subdivide the mesh. This other tutorial shows the process using images imported from Krita:
Truth. I myself only started animating in Blender after I took a 2D animation course on Udemy. I’m even reviewing the entire course now, because I haven’t touched the program for a while… and I forgot some things.
What I’m doing is jotting down all the essential steps and taking screenshots, in case I miss a detail or two.
But it’s also a matter of practice. For example, during a work step, I create bones for the character and then associate each body part with its respective bone. Before this task seemed to take forever … now, to my surprise, I finished it in less time than I expected.
Well animation curves in Krita can’t be said to have the same relevance it has in other animation softwares.
It is best used to do stuff like parallax and camera movement.
Krita has a more paper animation perspective to things.
