hey, since fedora (KDE plasma 6) and other KDE focused distros are starting to ditch X11 for Wayland…
Will we have some Wayland support for next year when the distros start going full Wayland?

If you use the forum Search facilty and look for “Wayland”, you may find useful information. It has been mentioned a few times.
yeah i searched already, it doesn’t take in consideration this news… Wayland is deemed ready and X11 is not developed and barely maintained, it is deprecated.
Wayland color management and HDR are progressing fast and it’s a question of time, next year will be interesting
They are not ready yet. When they will be ready there is still work on krita side to support it. So far the team has not started that work as far as I know. And there is not just colour management issue. krita also depends upon some of the X utils like xcb for keyboard shortcuts etc from what I remember.
I do not think usage of X will be completely gone, many people will keep on using it. there are many things which wayland doesn’t offer yet like a good tablet mapping and settings panel. Both KDE and gnome implementation of tablet settings lack many things.
So in my opinion may be another 3-4 years until it is actually usable.
Color management is still not possible in Wayland, graphics tablet support is spotty and Krita is still married to Qt5 but for good Wayland support it has to be ported to Qt6 which in turn dropped support for Angle and some others things Krita relies on. To name a few things.
it is not that far away
I am still not convinced it will be ready this year. My guess is still the same 3-4 years
Yep, me too! One can write many things, paper is patient.
