I like the thickness variation especially in the folds and overlapping lines
You might like the Bristle Line or Thick Bristle from this bundle:
Hi thanks for the mention, but I think for what this person is looking they need a simpler brush.
I don’t know who would have a brush bundle with something like this, but seems pretty easy to make, I think if you made a brush with the pixel engine and control the size of the stroke with the speed of the brush instead of the pressure sensitivity you would get an effect like the one shown on the image.
My bristle brushes are mainly controlled by pen pressure so I don’t think it would give this result without modifying them
your bundle is cool and your example art is sick
but youre right I want something simpler, it feels counter intuitive to not have pen sensitivity but i think youre on the right track. the brush im looking for is something that could emulate using a thick signature liner black roller ball pen on very smooth paper, something that would emulate a quite wet and dark inky brush that usually doesnt change in size unless the ink groups together when making contact.
i hope my rambling is a bit coherent lol
I am not on my computer right now so I’m explaining this with pictures I downloaded on the internet, so sorry for the low quality.
What you would want I assume is a brush that is thicker on the start and end of each stroke and thinner in the middle part. This is effect is commonly made by controlling the size with the speed of the brush stroke.
To make this in Krita you need to create a simple brush, Krita uses diferent engines for brushes that give you diferent options to tweak so just make sure you choose a Pixel engine brush.
In the brush settings youre gonna see a window like this
I circled in red the important options, make sure in the size settings you select the box that says speed and optionally if you dont want the size to be affected by your tablets pressure sensitivity untick the pressure box.
Now for the effect to work, the curve you see on the right side should look like a diagonal line like this → \
Basically youre indicating you want a bigger size in slower strokes, and a smaller size in faster strokes
Now if you dont see any difference in size or if the difference is very minimum you might want to adjust your preferences in “settings>configure Krita>Tablet settings (even if you dont have a tablet)”
You will see a window like this
Try reducing the maximum brush speed so that the speed parameter gets a little more sensitive.
Hope it helps, feel free to ask any questions if you need to ![]()
I’ll try this out and see if its to my liking thanks so much for this comprehensive guide!
one more thing if you dont mind, but i was using this brush as an alternative for now and it gets thicker when it curves, do you think something like this can also be implemented?
Hm, that brush uses another engine called curve engine. I don’t think you coulcould get something exactly like that because of how diferent both type of brushes work, but I think that maybe one way to simulate the effect is making the brush shape an elongated shape either horizontally or vertically, though it would not be perfect since it would only get thicker in one angle instead of in every curve
(Example made in Ibis Paint, it has no size variation, is a simple brush with a diagonal shape)
thank you so much for your help :> I guess the curve thing wasnt in the cards, but i like the brush advice about speed! youre a life saver thank you
I don’t know if the Whacky-Brush I once created will fit your requirement, the topic with showcasing pics is found here:

Hi, now that im properly on my computer I made a brush trying to imitate the reference image you attached, i also thought you could also add Time to the brush’s rotation to kind of emulate the effect by the curve brush, in my example here is very minimum and not too noticeable.
you can decrease the time it takes to rotate for a more intense line wobble (this setting right here)
heres how i made it
Brush shape, pretty much anything rectangular-ish should do
Size is set to speed, no pen pressure used
rotation, here i set it to time and tick the box that says repeat
That’s pretty much the important stuff, I’ll leave my brush here in case you want to use it and tweak it to your liking.
Some things to consider is that since this brush is based on velocity it can feel and look different from the original artwork, if you draw slower than me you might not see a lot of variation on the stroke size, or if you draw fast the effect might be too drastic. Also i have set my maximum brush speed to 5ms, by default is 30 i think, so try to play with the parameters until you get it to your liking
