Are there any plans by the developers to implement full support for ABR brushes? Would it be possible for them to update Krita to be able to import ABR brushes into the brushes folder and have the full brushes settings automatically carry over into Krita?
I guess they aren’t because krita has a whole other system for brushes and making them. But to be honest, I’d prefer krita to support abr brushes instead of being able to fully customize them. Most people don’t even use it because it’s too complex
This only would make sense if Krita would have the exact same brush engine as Photoshop and Krita does not aim to be 100% Photoshop compatible.
There were some attempts from plug-in creators but in the end they all face the same problem. Even if you translate Photoshop brush settings as best as possible to Krita’s (and making assumptions where there is no equivalent) they simply don’t look and feel like in Photoshop due to the difference in engines.
So basically no, unless maybe there comes a Photoshop brush engine into Krita from somewhere.
As like the people said its have been talk several times, its something difficult at the moment, maybe with this QT6 porting and implementation its possible.
You can see the example of Gimp how they are managing to create a full support of ABR brushes. But right now they are others things that to be added to the brush engine, for being more compatible or similar funtions like the Clip studio paint or Procreate.
Besides, adding to the comentary of @Takiro . Maybe they need to add more features for the brush engine behavior such as the Fade distance, brush ending, upgrading the tilt elevation, the textures or adding the similar funtions from the brush engine of photoshop as well just like the texture each tip or per stroke , it could be possible to recreate something similar or equivalent into the photoshop brushes engine.by reverse engineering, because as far i know CSP engine and procreate engine are tooo much far to be something similar to the photoshop engine brush, but at the end they could be ported as well in his own brush engine. Besides even in Gimp they can now add the load PAT textures directly from Photoshop patterns, Gimp its more nearly to get the support of ABR brushes.
