Auto save files - how many and where?

Hello

Regarding the auto-save files (not backup files) … how many of them save per Krita file (or is it just one file) and where is their location, hidden in its original Krita file directory?
Reason I’m asking “how many”, is I want to understand if its just one file updating or many continuously and if the latter, then how big are these files, same size as the Krita and backup file? I’m concerned about space as my SSD is small, Ideally I’d also like them to save more often than the default (15min) as I haven’t got battery backup at the moment and our local power grid is dodgy, crashing ever so often. So want to try make sure to loose as little work as possible.

TIA

This section of the manual will be of use and interest to you:

The autosave file is only intended for use by krita after a crash, to recover your image.
If you Quit krita normally (i.e. it didn’t crash) then it will delete the autosave file before quiting, because it assumes that you’ve saved your work.

If krita does crash, then the next time it starts it will see the autosave file and offer to open it for you.

Save regularly and often then. Incremental Save may be useful in case of unpredictable and random crashes due to external causes.

Thanks for the info.
Is there any down side to auto-saving more frequently than the default performance wise or other?
Would it use a lot more RAM or other resources?
I have an old machine, limited RAM to, not a huge amount. So want to be as efficient as possible with Krita when using it.

Autosave is done in a background thread, so while it takes some cpu, it shouldn’t impact performance that much. I’ve set mine to 3 minutes, but then, I’ve run out of older, slower computers (they all failed in fairly short order) so I’m using faster, newer computers nowadays…
