yes but it says that thers no program asociated with it and to open with dialog to pick a program. im sorry for inconvinince
did you fix it?
I’m not sure if Mint’s file manager is doing something weird with executable files. Check whether the file has executable rights set.
What always should work is opening a terminal, going to the extracted folder and then running typing:
./BeeRef-0.1.1
You can also install the desktop file as described in the installation section on https://beeref.org, then you should be able to find BeeRef in the program search of your desktop—if that’s Gnome, by hitting the windows key and typing BeeRef.
I run it using a launcher with target /opt/BeeRef/BeeRef-0.1.1/BeeRef-0.1.1
You can put the BeeRef-0.1.1 folder anywhere you like of course.
Edit:Add: @Rebecca might frown at this, but if you rename it to:
‘BeeRef-0.1.1.appimage’ then you can run it by clciking on it.
I installed the launcher Synapse and …tadaaa! it flipin works!!! Thank you all Rebecca mythmaker and ahabGreybeard !!
I did check that, and actually found it strange that it was already allowed; I didn’t think executables were enabled without the user activating them. I guess I was mistaken! ![]()
I’ve installed the desktop file and it runs fine via that method. ![]()
This looks really interesting program and I want to tried it, but when I tried to open the program my antivirus detected a virus in there…
@Rebecca should be asked to give advice about this.
The executable is build with PyInstaller, which can cause false positives with virus scanners. The best is if you contact the support of your virus software so that they can check and whitelist BeeRef. Someone’s already done it for Avast, so if you use that and have the latest updates, it should work.

The last activity from Rebecca in the Github-Repo of BeeRef was two years ago.

There is a fork which has some activity and fixes.
I made a request this year to get BeeRef as a Flatpak: Beeref Flatpak on Flathub , I wonder if I should recontact the team to rebase the code of the Flatpak to the fork of mini-ninja-64 and their 0.3 version tag.
I’m worrying for @Rebecca , I tried to contact her in the process on Twitter/Mastodon and via the Github but I never got an answer, and I see here she doesn’t interact with the thread too. I hope she is ok.
Even I mailed her but got no response. ![]()
