Best way / Best guides (or courses) to learn Krita FROM SCRATCH with no experience in digital painting (and in art in general)

Hi everyone !

I’ve recently been introduced to digital painting, and I bought a course to learn the basics of painting (colors, perspective, blending, etc …) and the foundations of Digital painting.

The problem is that the teacher is using Photoshop only when he is teaching us how to do stuff.

So that means that I CAN follow the course, but as a complete beginner, I need to do research / configurations to understand how to have the same results he does have with photoshop.

So i wanted to know if there was any ressource (free or paid, I don’t mind investing to learn in good conditions) to learn Krita from scratch, so that when i’ve followed this course, then i could jump on my course and be able to follow it smoothly.

Hi @Wilfried123 - I get what you mean about Photoshop courses being difficult to translate to Krita when it’s all new to you.

Here is a link to a series on YouTube that I love.

Blade and Quill’s series for new Krita users

I hope this helps.

Daym !

Thanx for the fast answer ! I’m really pleasantly surprise :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve just stumbled upon krita shop and I thought about buying the USB key with everything in it !

Is it a good way to start too ? (Like a systematic approach ?)

I’ll check the playlist right now

You don’t need the USB key to get the newest stable version because that’s always free from the download website:
Krita Desktop | Krita

The packaged tutorial videos will be useful as a local resource that doesn’t rely on an internet connection, if you want the convenience of that.
I suggest that you watch video tutorials on YouTube at first, like the ones suggested by @sooz above.
Later, after dipping your toe in the water in that way, you can decide if you want to buy the tutorials on the USB key.

I’ve quickly browsed through the playlist and i think it will be really helpful to have it under the arm when I’ll need to dive deep into specific topics !

I’ve bought the USB key anyway so that I can have something that introduce me to Krita from scratch scratch (I don’t even know how to browse properly through the UI :stuck_out_tongue: )

I’ll keep you updated of my progression but buying the USB key seemed to be the best approach for me because it seems that it would be the most frictionless way to familiarisé with Krita (although some of the courses are based on previous versions of Krita…)

I’ll make updates for maybe a 'ext person who feels a bit overwhelmed about starting with Krita too !

Have a good week guys and thank you !

Thank you i’ve bookmarked it

I think most efficient way if you can’t understand how to correlate with Krita what your teacher does in Photoshop is just to ask here, on the forum.
In case the course all about basic painting/drawing things the teacher most likely going to use simple tools that all painting apps have.

I just found a recent and comprehensive beginner’s guide on Youtube:

I’ve started to follow this one, but i’ve received my Krita USB Card with all of the coruses, and i’ve followed Muses.

Everything was really well explained and the approach was really systemic and covering all aspects in a good way.

For now i’ll keep following the Krita Courses to build a solid fundation and then i’ll jump onto other people tutorial to improve my knowledge !

Thanx a lot !
