This study was made to test a theory: only using round brushes would work?
I saw Samdoesarts saying that on a video and decided that I must try that…
Also, I made this because in my last piece(Yellow girl) I used a bunch of different textures brushes. It was a fun to paint this one.
The result is a mix of hard+soft round brushes that I used 100% of the time.
Next time I will try to not use all the reference photo like that again. It is easier to paint with reference as what I did, but I feel like I’m just rendering what is alredy done.
I mean, it is important to study this way, but you don’t have to think about things like composition and values that much. Doing paintings from scratch is more defying and you have to put these knowledges into practice…
Very nice, i like the round ended diagonal lines that add abstract feel.
Not surprising thar you can make it work with just round brushes. It does add consistency throughout. Needs a little bit of rendering imo, but just on some lines. Like her face is great.

near neck and jaw and contour of face. i did a bit of touch up. mainly some definition needs to be touch on. but then its less of a study and more finished. the silver flower jewelry and her hand too.

When I posted it on artstation I also felt like the jaw was kinda weird…
During the study I didn’t put work in the silver flower on purpose because I thought it wasn’t a Focal Point, but looking at the picture now, I can see that we have one main focal point (the face), the first thing we look, and we also have lines that pave a way to make the silver flower a secondary focal point:
Also it was kinda hard to make the flower because the shape of cristals aren’t round so, you know, using round brushes was a pain in the ass at that part of the painting, so I activated the “forget this, gonna focus on the contrast only” mode lol.
As for the jaw and the hand, maybe If I just made some adjustments with the blending tool+ putting some lines would do it, like you said
Since it’s just a study I will leave this as it is.
