The Expression is Sad but i like it because is someone that is connecting with the viewer. I will check the color stage, white hair, often has yellow , blues, and more subtle tones in affected by the reflected colors. This portrait is 2 times better in B/W with more contrast between beard and skin. imo
I hope this helps a bit. Anyway, one good strong point is how deep the eyes are. :wink:

If you are right in what you say that there are more shades of color, I have others in which I used those shades. But in this case I was not displeased with the result. Maybe I am wrong.

Your paintings always make me think of El Greco and therefore slight distortions only ad to intensity of expression.
