Call for Artwork for the 5.0 release notes

I really look forward to 5.0 release, because I’m using it since alpha versions… for a year or more. I don’t use any other tools to draw or edit, because Krita fits 100% of my needs (maybe because of my simple style but still).

Most of the best art I drew is here on this forum. Here are few drawings with non-copyrighted characters (my original characters).

Question, if I decide to share kra file, how would it be used?

@loentar The .kra file would only be needed for animations, for representative screenshots I suppose.
For images, high resolution .png files of the finished artwork would be fine, as noted here:

I see this work is licensed with NC (no commercial). If we want to use it we need your work to be licensed as CC BY, or CC BY SA, or CC 0. But the license CC BY NC ND is not useful. Could you change that and send again the txt. file? if so , thanks.

Please send the original .kra files to foundation@krita.org and include this data if you want to collaborate

  • the name you want us to use for credits
  • the CC license you want to apply

Thanks for message; I’d sent the details privately via email and would have preferred contact that way tbh. I’d looked up the licenses page, not knowing that any of them wouldn’t be okay, but, tbh, I prefer to stay with that license. Just withdraw the image if it’s not useable in a video etc. No problem.

Read the same about licenses please we need a CC BY or CC SA or CC BY SA or C0

Ok, thanks for fast answer. Sadl, because the video was cool and the image vibrant but the Software Stores, has their own rules. Retired.

Thanks about the image, which is what I understood I’d copyrighted. If you’re meaning the timelapse I sent in, I haven’t attached a license to that.

everything needs a license. So if you sent a new txt for the video, a part of the timelapse could fit in the promo video.

Hadn’t known the timelapse would be used; had sent it to prove did the artwork fully, while having problems sending the kra. CC BY-SA’s fine for the timelapse. Thanks.

I like the pink lady could i use it for appearing in the video-promo in Store platforms?

This seems a little hardcore - people might want to allow the Krita foundation to use their work in marketing without allowing the whole world to use their work commercially. I understand that the NC license doesn’t work for you, but wouldn’t a simple contract allowing the Krita foundation, specifically, to use the work for marketing purposes suffice?

Sure. Do you need an artist name or a contact address or something else for it to be under CC BY?

As Krita is getting profit with the video, the images need to be that way to be included in the promo campaign. I am investigating more that topic.

Jusk peek around Creative Common wiki NC page, there has been some arguement about rebranding Non-commercial to Commercial-Rights-Reserved to prevent confusion.

FAQ in creative common website about NC

If you want to reserve the right to commercialize your work, you may do this by choosing a license with the NC condition. If someone else wants to use your work commercially and you have applied an NC license to your work, they must first get your permission.

Fully agree with @hulmanen, and also @Lesqwe56’s statement clarifying about NC.

The opening post calling for artwork didn’t mention commercial matters/money made from any art submitted; it just simply said art was to spruce up release notes, show what can be done with krita, and show the community.

An extra idea could be a separate non-commercial video/artworks, for any who do not want art used commercially, also. I’d understood the default for krita was non-commercial/non-profit, but, if a contract is needed and/or separate artworks/videos for separate purposes, it would be good to clarify things moving forward, for when there are other releases or any other calls for art, especially with krita covering a range of platforms all the way from fully libre to fully commercial.

I think my Duncan artworks would evolve in Krita 5! I think one of these artworks should be mentioned, maybe because these chosen characters have become popular on the forums:

(The pictures were all made in Krita. All characters shown or not shown that are a part of DTC are completely original. They are mine.)

Olivia: First ever fully pregnant female character, popular because of her family lore

Isabella: Coffee shop waitress, attracted attention because of reveal material explained in the process

Duncan: The true main character of the entire story (he’s in the name.)

Oh yeah, and since attaching website links are allowed, I’ll definitely attach this!
Duncan: The Culture | Art Series (wixsite.com)

Y’know, none of this would have been possible without Krita. I am truly thankful

May I ask if there any news yet about the licensing issues?
