Helloo mates and kates, I haven’t posted in a while: I’ve had a pretty rough period, but moreso, I’ve been a little more active on my pixiv
But here I am again! for a while, at least.
I came here with a request, and my request is about her anatomy; (this is a fanart drawing of stardust from Sucker for Love: Date to Die For ,I reeealy like this game; Highly recommend) , Mainly about the leg with which she’s standing (the right leg)
I looked at some anatomy refferences, I tried to edit it, but yet it just doesn’t seem right to me…
sooo… I was wondering what to do about it? Maybe move it more inward or something?
Oof this is very vague…I can only guess she’s supposed to play that guitar we can see in that one reference?
I haven’t really been able to find good references of that character…
I’m not really that great with anatomy myself yet, but took this occasion to practice by drawing the pose as I imagined it (without any further references).
Basically, the shoulders seemed a bit too wide to me, and the left lower leg is definitely too long (the other one is too vague to tell where the knee is supposed to be).
Same here, still learning the basic anatomy, but broadly speaking there are two ways to crack this:
Find an exact pose reference and carefully copy the shapes. This can work well but doesn’t help you to learn.
Construct the body from stick man, to mannequin, to more fleshed silhouette (body landmarks). This is the “proper” method.
For the point 2. I think it’s really important to identify:
the center lines (the line that separates the big body parts into left and right halves) (Like in @Lynx3d 's drawing the line across the chest, the abdomen)
the faces (sides), for example, what side of the head is the front, what are the sides, what is the top, or for the arms, where are the main sides, are they twisted, etc. This matters due to the perspective, because some faces won’t be visible.
gesture line and balance (in this case that the character won’t fall to one side). I’m mentioning the gesture, because it seems very subtle (not enough) in your pose. This happens when you are iterating to fix the body, sometimes it becomes less and less expressive (talking from experience).
identify the eye level of the camera and make sure the perspective matches that.
This is hard… I’m feeling the pain as if it was my pain working on my poses… I recommend you try drawing a few more sketches (small size, or maybe even thumbnails) to quickly experiment with the gesture and tweak the placement of limbs. I can’t count how many drawing I just dumped in the bin or put in a “digital drawer” because I got overwhelmed with the pose I had in mind
It also may be just the pose itself. To me the upper body says easy listening while her legs are rocking. The opposing forces creates an argument in my mind in determining what’s going on. If you want the rock style, move the torso to the neck of the guitar or towards the audience to belt out lyrics. See a couple of references below.
