Hello, I would like some tips on how to control the “blendiness” and opacity of smudge brushes. I have read the manual and see how the controls work, but quite frankly I don’t totally understand that brush engine. Controlling the pressure for smudge length, color rate and smudge radius and I still have problems with brushes that blend too much and opacity that disappear if I press to light.
Can you help me to understand the controls or point out to some video. I’d greatly appreciate it.
When you are making yourself familiar with brush settings, then it seems important to me that you, as long as you don’t get the hang on it, always only change one setting at a time and play around with it till you can grasp what it can do for you. Take existing smudge or blending brushes and create a copy of them to use them as a base to experiment with.
Don’t forget that to smudge and blend you need at least a color patch on the canvas, but three, four or five patches of different color close together will make experimenting more easy.
This series on the brush engine is the most comprehensive tutorial you can find right now, it makes sense to use it.
