Can't seem to get Split Layers to work

Hi! I’m kinda new to Krita, but I’ve been working on a piece and after creating the colour flats on a single layer, I would now like to split them into seperate layers for each colour so I can start shading. Whenever I try to use the Split Layer function the progress bar at the bottom shows it is working, but after 100% is reached Krita becomes unresponsive and I can only close it (which I usually do after a couple of minutes in the hope of something still happening).
I’ve played around with the Fuzziness setting (and left the rest to default) and no setting seems to work (although it did once produce two layers after I set it to 80, even though the colour flats contain at least 10 colours).
I’ve tried it on two different computers with both 4.2.7.1 and 4.2.8.

Anyone any ideas what I might be doing wrong, or whether this is a bug in Krita? Thanks for any help.

It works fine for me with the default settings.

What is the dimension of the image, the color profile etc ?

It’s CMYK and 7020 by 5100 pixels. In trying different things I now noticed that switching off the visibility of the top layer does make Split Layer work… odd.

I would recommend working in RGB and then later converting the color profile to cmyk as it gives odd results with blend modes and also with filters. Read this -> Is working in CMYK worth it?

Thanks! I’ll give that a try.
