Hi, I’m having trouble making this staircase. My design is like the first image, where those empty spaces between the steps are supposed to be landings. But I don’t know if I got the perspective wrong, but I can’t figure out how to make them so they’re noticeable. I saw that image on the right as an idea, but it’s from a different perspective. I’m also having questions about the handrail. Any suggestions?
The second image is removing the landings and leaving only steps
One I noticed when looking at the reference of stairs on the right:
You can’t actually see the landings any more then you can any of the steps. The only thing that indicates the landings exist is actually the straight sections of the walls on the sides that run in an opposing direction to the downward slope of the stairs themselves.
I’m at work right now so I’ll see if I can diagram the image really quick, but if not I’ll try to do it when I’m home tonight.
I don’t think I did a very good job diagramming these, but I’ll try to explain the best I can.
Due to perspective, the stairs increase in size greatly the closer you get to the bottom. Both in height of each section, but also width from left to right.
Also, in the reference, the door at the top is cut off at the bottom. You can’t see the top landing or the bottom of the door at all. This indicates you’re at the bottom looking up. In your drawing, since you can see the top landing it appears as if you’re looking at the stairs from up in the sky rather then on the ground below.
In the markup with yellow and red dashes, I realized this staircase might not have landings at all, it might just appear that way because of the walls on the sides. But even if it does, you can notice how much you see them (not much).
and my 3rd markup with all the different colors is just to show the size difference between each section of stairs from bottom to top.
I don’t know if any of this helps or not, but that’s as much as I know.
