Cheating or Not (Poll)

I can draw and paint even sketch objects but I can’t draw perfect circle to save my life so I use the ellipses tool to draw a circle and then use the magic wand ( continuous selection tool) to make sure I stay in the line of the circle. I sometimes feel this is cheating. I was just wondering how others felt about this. So I’ve created a poll to get others thoughts.

There’s so much more to art than drawing neat (let alone perfect) circles. You’re fine

I totally agree. I am just appeasing the little man haunting my brain

I thought the "curse of cheating" only affected artists in my country…

When there was no computer graphics, I considered it “cheating” to use a ruler, set square or compass and drew everything freehand. As a result, I could not handle these instruments well and my drawings came out with flaws.

After computer graphics, I use these resources to the fullest. Why shouldn’t I?

Using the tools is not “cheating at art.” After all, if artists can use a ruler, a compass, or even a Solo cup to make shapes with precision, than digital tools are equally legitimate.

I appreciate all of y’all’s feedback and votes. I am gonna close this poll sometime today after I get off of work. Thank you again :slightly_smiling_face:

Are freehand circles going to be on the test? I haven’t studied! :kiki_upside_down:
Nah, if you’re following your own rules the only one you can cheat is yourself. If you want to learn how to draw nice circles by hand, then using tools could cheat you out of learning that, but if all you want is nice circles then that’s what the tools are there for. Use whatever works for you.

Thank you.

If you can draw perfect lines and circles and know how to harmonize colours out of the 9th heaven but have no imagination you are still struggling as an artist. Just do things your way, tools or no tools.

The most basic thing in visual elements is a dot. The rest of what we’re doing as visual artist is connecting those dots into objects and deliver messages out of it.

My illustration professor once said, “Neat lines or not, you are still involved in a great process and progress.”

My lines is also jittery and sometimes unsightly, and Krita is a lifesaver for providing a bunch of useful assistant tool.
