ColorLab-Inspired Brushes (Need help)

I’m back at it again with trying to make brushes, this time halftone brushes.

A few months ago, I got an ipad and got my hands on Retrosupply’s ColorLab brushes, and I’ve a lot of fun with them when making art and comics. I feel like Krita deserves its own version of ColorLab, which is why I’m trying to make a nice set of halftone brushes based on the CYMK color system.

Unfortunately, I’m having a lot of trouble doing this, and I was wondering if anyone has any advice on how to achieve what I’m after? I used some textures of the CL brushes a friend gave me a long time ago, but I’m having trouble figuring out how to make them blend properly.

I’m gonna share a comparison. Picture A is of the brushes I used in Krita, (“Yellow 20%” and “Red 20%”) The second picture is of ColorLab brushes. (“Y2” and “R2”)

I think my issue might lay with the sizes of the textures, as they’re all suppose to be the same size in order to blend. Maybe that won’t work with Krita’s system? I’m not sure. If anyone has any advice on how to make nice halftone brushes, please let me know. I’m open to anything.

try checking out the mojo moo brushpack, I think it has what you are looking for

Thanks, I’ll check it out. To be honest though I wanted to make my own.

Also important note: Apologies for posting this in the wrong thread. I think I got them mixed up.

I gave these a try but they didn’t really do what I wanted.

If size is the problem, you can change that in the brush editor > Pattern > Option

There you can play with Brightness, Contrast, and Neutral Point if you feel the need to correct it.

Looking closer at the second picture, it seems like the two colors seem to mix? I tried to make my own halftones:

(my guess is that the dots might be a bit too small  )

The three halftones were all set on different layers, set with the blending mode Binary > AND, so maybe setting the brush with that filter?

Dunno, what do you think?

I don’t think it will be any help but there is a plugin doing something a little similar in a script https://krita-artists.org/t/newspaper-plugin-for-halftoning/

I bought Kraftone for Photoshop (same concept) because I was so interested in the concept and I am curious to see how it will work in Krita.

Yeah, what you’re showing is more what I’m aiming for.
The brushes are suppose to blend on top of each other with different layers, and you’re suppose to be able to get a variety of color combinations by following CMYK specific color charts.

I’ve been using multiply in Krita so maybe I should try Binary instead. It’s worth a shot!

It looks like a cool plugin, so I’ll take a look at it. Maybe it’d be better than Krita’s built in halftone filter.

I’d still like to try and makes brushes but I’m not opposed to the filters either.
