Colors Colors, Why these names?

Well, is not an issue…
Only curiosity, but where the default palette names come from?. These names are cool. Now I am arranging a new palette for my own use and I realized how i barely watched them. Now I am adicted.

I think those are the autogenerated names that @Deevad got from the color palette utility that he used to produce this palette.

Overal, originally ‘specific’ color names tended to be in reference to the pigment source (lamp black is coal from a lamp, lead white was originally made from lead, madder lake is red because of the madder plant used), but over time paint manufacturers needed a way to refer to the paints and inks that were mixtures, so they started using ‘is coloured kinda like’ type names, which is what gets you stuff like ‘blush’, ‘peach’, ‘sky blue’. And because the typical use of palette colors in the context of a computer is by designers who’d been trained to work with paint manufacturer swatches and names, most computer palettes use these kind of names as well.

Really interesting info. Names can create good mnemonics for certain combinations on repeated tasks. What app used @Deevad for the palette?

Hey Ramon and Wolthera ,

It’s a bit far away in memory, but I think I used the name I found on the color name of Wikipedia. The palette and color choices was made before editing the names, so I probably selected the closest shade visually. Probably also ones I could understand with my limited English vocabulary. This or total invention from scratch, or a mix.

How about a palette made frrom those colours with the funniest/coolest names such as
Razzle Dazzle Rose, Atomic Tangerine, Screamin’ Green, Razzmatazz, Bittersweet Shimmer,
Cosmic Latte.
Yes, really, they’re all in that Wikipedia table

I’ve just learned about the movie thanks to you. Now, it’s on my watchlist.

Those colour names seen to be the html colour names.

Pigmento acctually uses them to. You input the name and find it or you can select any colour and press search and it will find the closest colour in 3d space with a name and select it. New colour names can also be added to the list to be used. Well just a curiousity really.

Where is the color name entered? The reference box? I can’t write there.

A good film. I watched in my childhood and i was surprised with the end. Very creative. Sad and disgusting but creative talking in narrative terms

I thought I explained this on another question but it is here

just write on the HEX block it accepts a bunch of different formats to represent colors and HTML color names included.

New names can be included to the list

I’ll watch it today.

Thanks Odin. Now, I’ve learned one more feature and PigmentO keeps amazing me. Actually, I’ve learned about two recently. I’ve also just clicked it accidentally and seen that there’s Kelvin in PigmentO too. So, there’s a separate slider for color temperature.
