i want to copy this drawing of a room and paste it below on the empty space. How can i go about this?
Use the rectangle selection tool to select it, then edit->copy and edit->paste (will go into new layer) or edit->paste into active layer to paste it into the same layer, and then drag it where you want it.

i did this but would like to add another step after pasting to new layer. Make sure to deselect the selection once your on the new layer before you merge the new
layer with the original.
Let me see if I understood, you want the selection to be removed once it’s pasted in a new layer? I think you would need to write a python script for this as that is not how krita behaves.
Btw if you want to merge with the original layer you can actually just paste on that layer now ( introduced in 5.x) it’s paste into layer option. Maybe this cuts some steps for you
