Krita is getting better and better - I just hope that the Masked Brush option will work better in the future, because it’s still very difficult to get anything useful out of it.

Perhaps I should - it’s been 3 years that i’ve been working with Krita. This program has an exellent interface and great tools ( like rulers ) but lacks in value control ( no brightness/contrast , shadows/highlights) and “subtle randomization” of brushes.

The ship design is very cool and the classic painting style is really nice. I actually thought it might be yours when I saw the thumbnail! 
I’m not sure about the technical problems you mention. I mostly use the levels filter to adjust values. It took some getting used to, but it’s more sophisticated than a simple brightness-contrast slider. I think you can also do it with the colour adjustment curves or cross-channel. I don’t use those myself though.
I can think of many ways to add random elements to presets so I’m wondering if you might have missed something. Of course - I don’t know how familiar you are with the brush editor. 
There’s plenty of experienced brush makers on here so you can always ask in the support section if you want ideas.

Hi and thanks. Maybe you’re right, I should spend more time with the brush editor but a simple contrast slider would be nice to keep the workflow.
