Annya is enjoying a leisurely afternoon with her cat Lulu.
Thought:
The line art process is killing my patience…
Edit 1: Add slight texture in background thanks to Splintterr’s suggestion
Edit 2: Fix creasing of the skirt.
Process, roughly…
-
Rough, trial and error for a more satisfying composition
-
Rough, base composition and color
Using Parallel Rulerx2 + Vanishing Pointx1 for 1-point perspective
-
Line and base color
-
Rendering global lighting, light-scatter and occlusion
(Using Lambert Light-gamma2.2 Layer blending mode for global lighting scheme)
Bonus:
Alarm clock image source
- Find a image site for CC0 content, copy to krita → Filter → G’MIC-Qt → Contours → Thin Edges
- Play with
Smoothness and Threshold parameter (0 and 12 respectively, in this example)-> OK
(Note that this filter looks different in preview and real output, need to experiment)
- Krita Filters → Colors → Color to Alpha
(choose white to remove white background, now we get a messy line art)
- Cleanup lines with eraser, brush and Ellipse tool manually…

Excellent! I really like how you showed us the alignment tools you used, and especially how you added a strong directional light source. And I love that little band of color between the light and shadow on her skin (subsurface scattering). Really adds to it.

A side effect from Lambert Lighting (Gamma2.2) blending mode.
Just simply blending light and dark part, and the effect appears.
Here is the original global lighting scheme with Normal blending mode.
Yes, you are absolutely right! I’ve thought of making texture in background, but put off due to laziness…will revisit it after a few days.
Edit: Can’t sleep and keep thinking to fix a slight fault…so I revisit it immediately and also add some textures

Awesome work!
Thank you very much for sharing your steps and the thoughts behind it. I am currently doing study on similar stuff (shading and light scheme) but incapable of following steps
.
Hi, @ynr_nohara!
I like your sketchbook thread, which has very nice discussion about your process, thought, trial and error part, and valuable feedback from others.
So feel free to ask, if you have any question regarding shading / light scheme process, as long as my knowledge can keep up
