I enjoyed watching the timelapse. It proposed answers to my questions of why Pepper has dolls or figurines resembling Tux and the Mastodon mascot (the penguin was originally more prominent, when Pepper seemed to be wearing modern clothes and holding a laptop, and when it got put in the back it was lonely), and why she put a drink in a spot that seems easy to accidentally knock over (last minute addition).

I’m still curious about what kind of houseplants those might be. Herbs? I know they’re just minor background details, but these illustrations have a way of drawing me in and making me curious about everything, like it’s possible to imagine the characters really living in this world and it’s not some sort of just made-up scenery. (I mean, it’s made-up but in a thought-out way.)

(I wanted to leave a comment on this the other day when I first saw it, but I had just come in from sitting outside with my cat in the sun (the only place that wasn’t cold), and gotten some hot cocoa, so when I saw the somewhat similar scene, it looked so cozy I just wanted to read a book or take a nap, and I was too sleepy to write anything, heh. Sorry if this post is just a rambly wall of text.)

Hey, that’s very nice to read your feedaback, don’t worry. You totally saw my struggle with the object around. True, the cup is definitely not in the best spot.

You are right about the plants: undefined and probably my default ā€˜bushy’ cartoony plant brain shortcut and I should have put more effort into defining them. Especially because I’m mister ā€˜watering all flowers and plants at home’ and it is a 1hour/week job since more than a decade and I have litteraly more than 40 indoor plants under my protection. I should have made a better work calling my visual vocabulary about them. I probably started them as Chlorophytums (I have tons of them, survivor of a period where I bought a mix of plants at Ikea), and finished them with leaf of ficus (it doesn’t make sens, all ficus I have of this size are not bushy). Now I look again at the illustration it is a big miss of opportunity to play on the variation of shapes and bring something a bit more natural and less ā€˜plastic plant’ from catalog.

I didn’t even notice the book started out as laptop :kiki_sweat_smile:

And the cup is pretty much where I would put it IRL…although, now that I look closer, I’m not sure anymore if Pepper sits on the floor or some kind of couch.
I assumed the floor, on a cushion the cup certainly would have a more dangerous life…
And now I think it lacks a bit of shadow, it almost seems to float…but so close to the edge of the image, you really need to look at it for a while to even notice.

Great work David, really love the warmth of it! If that is a couch, the cup would be in a forbidden place in my home, I can hear my wife now…

Amazing, I am gonna learn all I can from just that one time-lapse! The process looked so smooth and thought out to the end. Maybe one day I’ll get one of my paintings featured?

Thanks @sooz and Krita-Artist team! Sure, you can repost on social media. Here is the 100% resolution jpg you can use: https://www.peppercarrot.com/0_sources/0ther/artworks/hi-res/2023-11-22_Cozy_by-David-Revoy.jpg

Thank you @Dynamighttt , the process here is very similar to one I explained in a three blog post tutorial ten years ago: Getting started with Krita (1/3) - David Revoy

she’s sitting on a thin mat near a quarter-rise window with pillows behind and around.

The heights of the lamp and bookshelf might be too short, though. Either that or the window is half-rise and she’s very tall sitting! :stuck_out_tongue: Interior decor is tough. I waive all of that though, this drawing is very pleasing and fun and that’s all that counts in the end
