Creating new brush tips without predefined .png files?

Hi, in Krita 5, how do I create new brush tips without predefined .png files? For Krita 5 RGBA-wet brushes from the below:

I downloaded the “RGBA-WET.bundle” from the youtube video description and selected “RGBA-wet 02 Flat” for testing. I noticed in the default Krita “Predefined” brush patterns, that no matter which brush pattern I choose, the shape of the brush is the same thin shape. Whereas the “Wet Knife” brush that came in Krita 4, the shape of the brush tip always changes depending on the predefined brush pattern I choose. Is that configured somewhere? If so, how do I configure it? Is this a new feature in Krita 5?

I think you mean brush ‘tips’? Brush ‘patterns’ are a different thing, in the Patterns section.

I’ve just downloaded and installed RGBA-WET.bundle into 5.0.0 and looking at ‘RGBA-wet 02 Flat’, I can change the Predefined brush tip and see a change.
Some changes are subtle and some are quite different, depending on which brush tip I select:

As delivered, it has ‘Craig_02’ for its brush tip. Which ones did you try that made it look the same?

I was using “RGBA-wet 02 Flat”. It has the same thin, vertical brush tip no matter which predefined brush tip I choose. The pattern changes, but the tip is the thin circular, vertical oval no matter what tip I use:

The bottom stroke was done with brush tip called “U Circle shape 5” all the way near the bottom of the “Predefined” brush tip tab list (don’t know what that list is called). As you can see, it creates the thin strokes when going up and down even though the shape of the brush tip is a circle.

Maybe that brush uses a masked brush? That would be a secondary tip that also affects the brush outline.

How can I tell if the brush is a masked brush? Also, is there a tutorial on how to create such a masked brush? In the brush settings, I don’t see where two brush tips are being used.

I tried unchecking the “Preserve Brush Preset Settings” checkbox and the brush tip becomes squished the other way.

Actually, I’m probably wrong about that - there’s no masked brush option available in the options box there, so I suppose the smudge brush engine doesn’t support that in the first place.

However, I notice “Ratio” is checked. My next guess would be that the settings under that squash the brush flat. If you uncheck it, what happens?

Yea, turning off the ratio now results in brush tip being the shape as it looks in the “Predefined” brush tip list. I played around with ratio a bit, but didn’t know what it did to the brush. I didn’t realize that the “Strength” percentage bar in “Ratio” section determined the flatness of the brush.

Yes, “strength” is essentially a multiplier on the attribute in question. So setting it to 0 on opacity will result in a 0 opacity brush, for example. I found it pretty confusing at first, too.
